Frankly, the AI text selection feature is problematic. For instance, when selecting text, it sometimes unnecessarily crops the content instead of allowing selection of the text and surrounding elements, or an entire paragraph for image sharing. This is undesirable because sharing often requires contextual elements, but the AI's forced text selection prevents resizing and necessitates restarting from scratch.

This Quran page exemplifies a usability issue. My intention was to share a portion as an image, but the AI selection tool interfered, necessitating a full screenshot. I needed to highlight or underline specific text without cropping, yet the AI consistently selected text regardless of my selection. Conversely, the One UI 5 and 6 smart select functionality allowed for text selection or detection, offering user choice. The AI, however, assumes text selection, which is undesirable when the goal is annotation or similar actions rather than text cropping.

The current AI selection functionality represents a step backward and is superfluous; reverting to the non-AI version, which effectively detects text and allows for straightforward copying, would be preferable. AI does not always accurately interpret user intent. For instance, image cropping, while seemingly straightforward in its objective of subject selection, presents complexities that the AI struggles to manage effectively.

As illustrated in the second image, the AI is forcibly selecting text, which is undesirable even with intentional user selection. Due to a language barrier, the selection was incomplete, failing to capture the intended portion for quick sharing with highlighting or circling. Therefore, please rectify this AI selection interference. Where this T button give us the ability to deselect the T and let us to it the old classic smart select way. Like I stated I want to select only a small portion no the enite line or page and with AI getting in the way it thinks it knows and knowing AI can't always get your preference right their should atleast be an opition to resize to personal preferences.

The cropping and resizing functionality should allow for adjustable selection areas. Previously, text was deducted, but the full text selection wasn't enforced. For example, annotating and sharing a screenshot portion is hindered by the forced text selection; image sharing, with or without text, shouldn't be restricted. SmartSelect's core functionality was to facilitate the sharing or saving of specific screen sections without requiring screenshots and subsequent editing. However, the current text extraction method necessitates reverting to the traditional screenshot and editing workflow.

I just had to make an account for this

please give us the "smart select" back. I don't want the downgrade "AI select", you should have given users both the old and new options so if anyone wants to revert to the old "smart select", they can.

The downgrade "AI select" takes very long because of the animation/effect, it can't select precisely and I can't even see the "extract text" button sometimes, very inconvenient

I hope you do report this to the devs. This feature ***, and we all hate it. It was perfect before. So why change it? Don't fix what's not broken!

This is only one aggravating change in the last update. Another one is how under contacts, "recently added" shows up first. It shows up BEFORE your favorites! What's the point in having a favorites list, if it isn't the first thing you see? And there's no way to turn that off. Very annoying!

If devs want to make changes like that, there should be an option to make it so, or not. I understand that they want to update things and make them new... But some of these changes are ticking people off. I've seen multiple comments about people switching to iPhone because of these things. They need to get it together!

I've never been so annoyed about an update.

Agree, it is a definite downgrade for me as well. I liked also being able to Smart Select the top left time from top bar on screen in my screenshots so that it could function as a time verification for my sorting easily. Hate when developers break things that worked well.

They could've kept the old smart select and just added AI instead of reinventing the wheel where it works like circle to search and force auto select text sometimes you just want to share portion of screen and not just copy paste the text, I'm not against have AI integrated but its forced there is still a work around that you have to circle a blank space which isn't convinent, also so circle smart select which they removed really bothers me, the AI select isn't really AI because you got the tex box for text detection before one ui 6.1.1 and the rebrand AI select forces it, what would be a good AI feature is basically the edit feature we have in gallery where it uses AI to smartly select not only text but subject, like for example when cropping a dp Pic when you circle around the AI show self adjust it to appropriate shape, the new AI select is a downgraded rebranded smart select also another feature I miss is the ability to see the aspect ratio that aspect ratio indicator was helpful especially for sharing content at 16:9 which is the correct aspect ratio it helped, I'd actually like to see AI integration which self correct subject and not just limited to text and bring back aspect ratio indicator, also integrating chat bot like Gemini extention where they can take full advantage of the capability.
Ability like being able to call when it detects phone number, being able to solve math problems or any AI detected problem, I feel like google should take inspiration from Samsung select integrate into Android which will make it cross compatible with gemini, in exchange samsung can convince google to give its AI features to Samsung users for free, Samsung can help google in software business and google can make an agreement giving Samsung owners free license to their AI exclusive features because Galaxy AI will always be a watered down google AI.
