I used the 4K video recorder on my Samsung S21 to record an owl perched on the speaker's gauntlet. I then played the video back and did a screenshot. The file generated in this case was VideoCapture_20210928-010347.

When I double clicked on the file in Windows 8's File Explorer I got a

"Windows Photo Viewer can't display this picture because there might not be enough memory available on your computer. Close some programs that you aren't using or free some hard disk space (if it's almost full), and then try again."

(1) There's plenty of memory (16GB RAM)

(2) No other programs are open

(3) Over 100 GB of space on the SSD

(4) The file size is only 732KB, c'mon!

So I opened the file in Photoshop and saved under a different name but still jpg format. Windows Photo Viewer still couldn't open the file!

I saved as a TIFF file and Windows Photo Viewer couldn't open that either!

Finally, I switched to Photo Gallery and all is well. But the file should still be able to be opened with Photo Viewer.

Help!

Are you talking about Windows 8 OS?

If you are, Windows 8's "end of life" was in 2016!

Can't imagine how THAT could be an issue... 🙄

Yes, Windows Photo Viewer has such a problem. You need to use new Photo Gallery to view it. I am not sure what cause this problem. But I still like the old Windows Photo Viewer instead. Maybe try other free program instead.

If that's the case, they could try VLC. I use the Android version, but there's also a Windows version & both are free.

I have windows 11 and have no problem whatsoever with opening files in file Explorer. Time to upgrade, bro.
