I have a brand new 980 Pro 2Tb. This is the model for the PS5, so with the integrated heatsink.
It has been clearly stated that a brick potential exist if not updating the firmware. I don't think there is a way to update the SSD firmware once installed in the PS5, isn' it ?? Otherwise, I bought a very simple adaptator where you plug the SSD in it, and at the other end there is an USB plug. I plugged that small enclosure (with the SSD attached) to a USB port on my desktop.
Using Samsung Magician, it does not seem possible to update the SSD firmware. It seems to see the SSD, but it's mentionned USB instead of NVMe. And instead of a firmware version that looks like what I've read on forums, it says in french "micrologiciel 0980" or 0208, I don't remember. But it's not that important, as the real problem is it seems that you cannot update the SSD firmware that way (with the enclosure).
Any help or idea on that ? I just want to update the firmware before installing it in the PS5. Thanks
If I'm really stuck, I can replace the only one and actual SSD on my desktop temporarily with that new 980 Pro, just for the update. But it would probably require a dummy Windows install, jsut to be able to do the actual firmware update, and then wipe out that Windows OS, format and install in PS5.
