You are about to read another complaint from me about tech support from Samsung.

So I have some AKG headphones, the C50BT. Bought them a year and a half ago at Costco. Costco doesn't provide extended warranty on headphones so I had to contact Samsung (since they bought Harman Kadron and all related brands like AKG and took over their operations). The problem? See for yourself:

This silver part holds the ears to the central piece, and also contains the wiring. You can see that the part is broken. Thus the right ear is loose. Not only this stresses the wire, risking it to break too, but this makes wearing them painful.

Also when I plug the 2.5mm/3.5mm jack, the audio only comes on one side and not the other. Audio over Bluetooth works properly.

I then contacted tech support. I knew it wouldn't be free but I didn't expect them to make the repair tedious on purpose.

Since the headphones aren't under warranty anymore (but you can't reasonably expect 200$ headphones from a premium brand to fail after less than two year when 4x cheaper headphones last one full year and more with ease), the rep first told me the only option was to buy new ones.

I insisted that "I want to fix them, not buy new ones. It is unreasonable to think these headphones can't last more than one year when 50-100$ headphones do last one year. Besides this model is not sold in stores anymore and comparable models lack several features such as AptX". (The comparable model in this situation are the Y500. The C50BT is the Canadian version of the Y50BT, and all carry/carried he same price tag). It's also disturbing that the rep implied that it's not possible to repair the headphones at all outside the warranty period. Charge for OOW repairs, OK, but blocking them?!

After I insisted and sent pictures of the problem, the rep basically told me that I had to buy the part myself (while hoping they still sell it) from the "Canada parts team" and then bring it to the service Center and hope they will accept to repair it for an unnamed amount.

I can't believe I'm supposed to play the man-in-the-middle for them. That's messed up. Never had to be the MiM before. Never had to supply Dell with a new motherboard and display for my laptop repair. Never had to supply HP for a hard drive failure. Never had to supply Harman Kadron anything before (I had to contact them for support once before their acquisition and they were very helpful). Never had to supply Bell with new wiring for my fiber line repair.

Should I also give a ride to the service center staff from their homes to their workplace? Perhaps I should also source their tools and their paychecks too?

Sorry I'm  a bit mad about this whole situation. It feels like they are forcing my hand to buy something I don't want to buy and I'm not feeling good about this.

(Still working on my suggestions and mockups but I got sick. Not very efficient to work when you keep 🤧 lol)

You can also go To small claim and you will will win for sure. Here in the province of Québec, any goods have To last for reasonable time. and 1 year, is not reasonable. 2 years ago, i did it for a smartphone, that died 23 months after i purchased it. I received 1965.00$ for a 850.00 devices. Here in Québec province, it's the law !!!!

Yup I'm gonna fill a complaint to the OPC. I was ready to pay to repair it, but not to play the MiM so that they "maybe" repair it.

Oops, the OPC is closed for now. I wanted to use the PARLe platform before going to the Petites Créances, and they must first approve my claim. So I'll wait until Tuesday (Monday is the St-Jean-Baptiste)

No not OPC.You have To fill à (mise en demeure) To small claim explaining that your headphone died or not working Well just few months after the guaranty expired. The OPC is gear about it: all products have to last a reasonable time. I did it for a smartphone and i win. And it was 1year and half after the 1 year guarantee. Another sample a dryer or washer machine have To last 10 years.

I'd rather not file a Mise en Demeure. See this: https://www.opc.gouv.qc.ca/a-propos/parle/description/

@CHMultimedia
