Samsung DeX

YouTuber Samuel Nam just did more to promote DeX than Samsung has done in the past 8 years since DeX's release.

Check this out: https://youtu.be/JlTwCE_DD94

Every Samsung phone and tablet ought to support DeX, and Samsung should be pushing to get more desktop applications on Android with DeX optimization (e.g. MS Office - the Android versions of Office apps are awful and limited).

Samsung would be far better off leaning into DeX than trying to push their Windows laptops pretending they're Apple.

Samsung DeX

Hi nickthaskater,

Thanks so much for your thoughtful feedback! We absolutely hear you. DeX is a powerful feature with incredible potential.

Expanding DeX support across more devices and working with developers to bring full-featured desktop-style apps. DeX is designed to give users a versatile, PC-like experience right from their Galaxy device, and we’re constantly working on refining that experience.

We’ve shared your feedback with our development and software teams.

Greatly appreciated ❤.

Unfortunately, Samsung One UI 7 began not support Windows DeX app. This feature I used the most, but they kill it. A little sad about it.

I'm glad DeX on Windows got axed. It was a constant source of confusion as many users thought it was "DeX," not understanding that DeX is primarily a standalone UI.

Windows Phone Link does the job as well as DeX on PC if you want to interact with your apps/files within Windows.

DeX is at its most powerful when used directly. It should be an alternative to Windows/Mac, not a supplement. This also serves to incentivize support for Android/DeX rather than treating it as an also-ran and just defaulting back to the establishment when it comes to software development and feature support.

If there were some more desktop-grade applications on Android, and if Samsung tweaked DeX just a little more with regard to RAM management and some other UI nits, I'd happily leave Windows behind. I gave it a go for 4 years, even selling my PC entirely, but the lack of desktop-grade versions of Office (or any reasonable alternatives) made it overly challenging.

Agreed.
Microsofts Phone Link does a good job even though initially I ignored it.

I still dislike having to keep my phone unlocked to use it to open up apps over windows.

I'd like a Linux solution that allows the phone to be locked and still launch apps within X11 still

There used to be an ADB command to "trust" the Phone Link connection so you don't have to unlock constantly. Not sure if it still works but worth searching and giving it a shot.
