Is there a way I can set for my M8 monitor to automatically capture the intrusion and then send my phone the screenshot or video? I often get the notification too late to see anything, and there is no playback feature...

Hi PVader,

The Samsung M8 Smart Monitor currently does not natively support an automatic screenshot or video capture of intrusions via its built-in SmartThings functionality. However, you can work around this limitation by integrating compatible devices or apps. Here’s how you can set it up:

Use a Compatible Camera for SmartThings: Pair the M8 with a compatible SmartThings-enabled camera.

These cameras can: Record and store footage. Send real-time notifications with snapshots or videos to your phone.

Steps: Open the SmartThings app on your phone. Go to Devices > Add a compatible camera. Set up motion detection alerts for the camera in Automation.

Trigger: Motion is detected by the M8 or a connected camera. Action: Take a screenshot, send a notification, or store the recording.

Steps: Integrate IFTTT with SmartThings. Create an applet to capture and send alerts. If your camera supports IFTTT, set it to record automatically upon motion detection.

Use a Cloud Storage Solution:

  • Pair a SmartThings-compatible camera with cloud storage (like Google Drive or Dropbox).
  • Set the camera to upload footage or screenshots automatically when motion is detected.
  • Enable notifications on your phone for new uploads.

Enable Automation Rules in SmartThings: Use SmartThings automation to send instant notifications: Trigger: Motion detection or intrusion alert. Action: Notify your phone with captured snapshots.

Steps: Go to Automations in the SmartThings app. Create a new rule: "When [Intrusion Detection] > Then [Send Notification or Execute Command]." If supported by your setup, include "Capture Screenshot" or "Trigger Camera Recording."

Thank you.

That sounds like a genius solution. Does the camera that comes in the box support what you said? If so, I can set it up...
