If you currently are subscribed with any Canadian carrier, you are likely being told that your phone is not "supported" for this feature.  Wifi calling....

This cannot be further from the truth.

Samsung has a unique and simple design built within their Android builds known as Country Sales Code or CSC. This portion of your device is used to set up your phone to work in different regions all over the world. This allows for greater flexibility of a particular device, especially the A5 2017. Besides network settings, it will also allow edits on certain phones that is legal in one country, or illegal in another such as the camera shutter or call recording built into the dialer.

Samsung built EVERY A5 the same. So, it means you can change your A5 into any other country and get the exact experience. You will void the warranty and are also able to damage it beyond repair if you attempt any modifications.

Now if they are all the same, why did Samsung sell a phone in Canada with no FM tuner? This is not entirely true. If you install F variant software, you will get full use of your tuner. So did the CRTC make fm radio illegal? No. Did Samsung pick on us? Of course not! Somebody had to TELL them to leave it out. I will leave it up to you, but it also means that somebody is deciding a little too much how your phone is used when you purchase it.

My carrier, Virgin, informed me that Samsung was responsible for wifi calling. Turns out they built my A5 2017 to support this feature. If you call your carrier, demand that they do not discriminate and simply disallow wifi calling for one reason: buy a phone you don't need. They've been doing it for years. Somebody at Samsung has had enough carrier manipulation. If you do a factory data reset, you are informed of wifi calling capability. Samsung did not tell you by mistake. Let's get our radio back, our phone as Samsung intended, and make Canadian carriers tell the consumer all requested modifications. They also do even more restrictions on phones XAC when you purchase outside of their company.

The gig is up. The A5 project was a brilliant way to free you from carrier restrictions and manipulation. Just so you know, this is not at all based on anything from Samsung. No Samsung employee told me this. This is my story about the silent war and my interpretation. Thank you Samsung. You can say thank you as well by calling your carrier and don't just listen to me. The truth is in the palm of your hands.

Interesting post with good information - One question - Changing the CSC shouldn't affect the warranty because it's not irreversible & doesn't change the boot.img or trip Knox....

All this text in this post to end up not saying much. We all know we can change CSC. In Canada carriers block IMS Settings if you bought your phone elsewhere than your carrier itself (at least Rogers/Fido does that). Not sure what you tried to say in your post but that's essentially it in Canada. Not even changing CSC will enable IMS Services.

I highly doubt it. My S9 has IMS registered and I have VoLTE and WiFi Calling just like normal even though the phone comes from Samsung and not Rogers

How? Because there's a million complaints that no one can get it to work. If your carrier has your Samsung-purchased phone IMEI listed in your account, there's no way your phone will have IMS registered. Changing CSC won't fix that.

See for yourself. This is the S9 I won from the S Members Action contest. IMS says Registered and No I did not communicate with Rogers to have them add my IMEI to their database or do any changes to my account

Plus I can assure you Wifi Calling is available on the A5 in Canada without flashing other firmware. My friend has an A5 2017 with Vidéotron and he has WiFi Calling

Also Radio began to be enabled on new phones. Note 8, S9, Note 9, A8 and the upcoming J3 2018 all have it982c94ea-caac-4ede-ac1c-c832098422ee.jpg

Okay, now how did you enable IMS Services then? I think that's only because they didn't specifically add your IMEI to their database under your account. I recall my old S7 had IMS services enabled when I bought it and it was previously a Videotron phone. Now on my S9 when I got it from BestBuy I did the mistake of giving its IMEI to Fido/Rogers and since then IMS hasn't been registered.

Maybe. How do I know if they added a specific IMEI to my account?

If you didn't specifically give it to them then it's probably not listed as primary phone under your account I guess? I am assuming your previous phone was a locked phone from them and you never signalled to them that you upgraded to a phone you didn't purchase through them [your carrier].
