Does anyone know when we should updated a new cellphone jw

Whenever an update is available. If you mean "upgrade to a new cellphone", then it depends on you. I would suggest you keep yours until it runs out of updates if it keeps working properly.

Usually your provider gives you 4 to 6 months before your contract is over so you should look into that.

As @HedgehogEngine said, it is up to you. Over the years when I have upgraded to a new cellphone, I wait until there is at least 6 months left on my contract with my mobile service provider. That way I can get a new phone at a lower price or possibly free on a contract renewal rather than paying full price for the phone.

@Linstyles, I would suggest talking to the service provider you have "pay as you go" set up with and see what they can do in regards to a phone upgrade.

update my phone every year, BUT NOT this year. I won't get a phone that doesn't have an external sd card!

Hopefully Samsung will bring it back! 

As for when anyone "should" update their phone, really depends on what you want & whether the phone you have is doing what you want it to do. 

The only answer that matters, is yours.
