I got a new Galaxy A20 last Thursday. Things were going well until Saturday, when I said OK to a system update. When the phone restarted, I was asked to key in a password rather than use the facial recognition that I had been using for security. I entered the password as I remembered it but the phone says it is incorrect. Every 30 seconds, I get to try again, always with no luck.

Samsung's online help explored the option of remote unlocking but that didn't work because I had not changed the preference to allow remote unlocking earlier. Now it looks like this phone that I have used for just a couple of days needs to be taken to a verified Samsung repair shop. We'll see what kind of bill that errand generates.

You can also try unlocking it via android device manager (googles find my device). If the device is new than you can factory reset . (Hard reset)

I found this explanation for a hard reset more helpful: https://youtu.be/3XZ9FmQ0ylQ

However, a hard reset seems to have solved my problem. Thanks!

Hi @john_manitoba,

All phones that have a Fingerprint scanner require the Password/PIN after booting the device. After that, it will use the FingerPrint Scanner. That's by design and is a security measure placed by Google.

Have you tried to unlock your device using find my mobile app? If yes, then the only left option is your device needs to be examined by Authorised technician and they can unlock this and they will be a paid service as you also mentioned earlier.

If not please try and get back to us with the result. You can unlock your device if you forget your pattern, PIN, or password

https://findmymobile.samsung.com/?p=deviceDetail

To use this service, you must be signed in to your Samsung Account on your device.

For future use please enable Remote Unlock settings by following the below steps:

Open Settings >> Tap on Biometrics and security >> Then tap "Find My Mobile". Tap the switches to activate "Remote controls" and "Remote unlock".

Yes, when I referred to the failed attempt to do a remote unlock, I was talking about the Samsung findmymobile site.

Hi. Just to let you know that the A20 lacks proper facial recognition hardware so your phone was not secured. I strongly recommend that after you solve this issue, you refrain from using this lock method.
