I have set my outlook as has been suggested to send email as html or plain text. When messages are received by others the attachments are in the correct format sent (word, excel, pdf, etc) but when i receive them on my device they are winmail.dat. I have 2 phones and my iphone receives the same email with attachment in correct format.

Hi MacTJ, it is because your message still sending under Rich Text Format from your Outlook. Check your Outlook settings. Which Outlook version you are using?

Thanks Tallman.

Hi MacTJ, Please try the resolution provided by Tallman. I would like to add some instructions regarding the settings.

  1. Open up your Outlook email client.
  2. Click on File in the upper toolbar.
  3. Select the Options setting.
  4. From here, select the Mail category.
  5. Now, under "Compose messages", you want to ensure the HTML or Plain Text option is selected for the Compose messages in this format.
  6. Next, under message format, set sending messages in Rich text format to Internet recipients to Convert to HTML format or Plain Text format
  7. Click OK to finish.

It may be detailed and informative but does not fix the problem on my S6 tablet. I have tried a number of email apps but they all receive the the winmail.dat attachment when it is sent as a .jpeg file. if sent to an ipad the problem does not occur.

I have followed the instructions in my Outlook as above/. Any other suggestions please.
