Hello,

I have an issue with my 3 month old Samsung Galaxy Book Pro. Yesterday I was playing some LoL and the fan starting making a weird sort of clicking noise. I'm almost certain it comes from the fan, since it increases in both volume and the interval between each "click" gets shorter as the fan speeds up. It is fairly loud and constant, so it sort of ruins the point of having it as a laptop for studies if this noise does not go away. It has never been dropped or abused, nor have I spilled any drinks or such. Anyone had a similar experience, or any idea of what could have caused it / what could resolve it?

Whilst I'm at it, despite being off-topic for this post, is it just me or is the battery for this device absolutely terrible? I charge it full and leave it in rest mode with nothing but Microsoft Word open in the background and I wake up to like 20% battery.

Thanks in advance,

Adam

You are actually not off topic.. did the clicking noise happens all the time or only during playing? Have you tried other games and the clicking sound is still there? Might be hardware problem. Try to contact support as you have it only for 3 months. It is still under manufacturers warranty..

It's constant, although it started occuring in the middle of playing a game of LoL. So basically it's always making a noise, whether I use my CPU very hard or simply just browse a tab in Chrome doesn't matter.

I tried to contact support but was unfortunately dissapointed. First one told me Samsung had nothing to do with my laptop since they had no repair service in my city(??), which I obviously questioned. They told me they couldn't help me further and redirected me to a reseller that I told them had nothing to do with my purchase. Obviously the reseller sent me back to Samsung, where I was transferred 3 times before a woman told me I had called the wrong number. Read the correct number for me and that was literally the number I had called her on. Ended up calling 8 times before being told to call yet another number which had closed for the day. Guess I will find out tomorrow, but it's safe to say that no one wants to do more than necessary among their support staff, which I find unfortunate since I just want this issue smoothly resolved. Told them I was 99% it is related to the hardware, for which I was sent a guide on how to open task manager(??).

Hi adamadamadamadam, If the fan is running hard during normal use, there's a few things that can be done.

Note: It's normal for the fan to get louder if the laptop is working hard, and should quiet down when the task is complete. Gaming and video rendering are notorious for pushing a computer.

Step1: Check task manager.
It's normal for asingle app to heat up your PC if you are performing intensive computing, like editing a video, or playing games. If an app has crashed or stoppedresponding it can also cause the fan to speed up.
Press CTRL +ALT + DEL and then click Task Manager.
Look for anyapps that are using a lot of CPU or GPU, you may need to click MoreDetails and maximize the window to see this information.
If there areany unexpected apps using a lot of resources, close them by clickingtheir name, and then End task. It is not generally recommended to closeitems listed under Background processes.

Step2: Check the vents.
If the airflow neededto cool your PC is even partially blocked, the fan will have to work harderand longer to keep cool.
Only use a notebookPC on a hard, flat surface like a table or desk so air will flow freelyaround it.
Remove any stickers, skins, or other decorations that might be blocking the vents.
Use compressedair to blow any built up dust from the vents.

Step3: Cool it down.
The fan speed isdetermined by the internal temperature of the PC. There's a few things youcan do to cool things down
Unplug the charger.Charging the battery generates heat.
Move the PC toa cooler environment.
Shutdown thePC and give it some time to cool down.

Step4: Enable Silent Mode.
You can use SilentMode on supported devices to put the system in Power Saving Mode and reducethe heat generated by the PC. This will also reduce the sound of the fanso your PC will not be so noisy. Silent Mode automatically turns off whenyou restart or sign out of the system.
Open SamsungSettings.
Silent Mode willbe located either under System or under Convenience. Click the switchto enable Silent Mode.

I'm pretty sure the issue is hardware related. Besides, it's not the fan itself being loud, but a clicking noise added on top of the fan's noise. Was sent this guide by Samsung support as well, but yet again, I don't see how the task manager would solve this issue. It does not matter whether it has been carried in -20°C or +10°C. The fan hasn't been in any dusty area, so I have a very hard time believing it would be clogged up. I contacted support today, but I gave up after 8 support staff told me to contact another one as they had no sufficient experience regarding this problem, despite calling the IT section. Will try further to contact someone with better experience tomorrow. Thanks for the help though!
