Just tap and hold on the period and it pull those up 😊 or whatever icon, some letters and such have different pop ups

yes it's the key/button to the right of the typical space bar. It's just a shortcut to oft used symbols... here it can be edited to personal taste.

The option is available if using Samsung's native keyboard, you can find it in the Samsung keyboard settings under Keyboard size and layout.

ah... make sense I use the G Board this is why I haven't seen it.

Until now I hadn't heard of Gboard. Samsung Swype does same as glyde. The search functions look interesting.
