Google Assistant not working with voice access on galaxy note 8

The option is greyed out and says it's not available in my language even though I'm using English US or Canadian (and reside in Canada)

 I've tried clearing cash/data
 Clearing and uninstalling Google Play Service updates
 Reinstalling it
 Disabling and renabling it
 Same thing with Google app
 Turning off and on screen capture/read
 Turning on and off Google assistant.
 Restarting phone
 All of the above in one go.

 Seems like nothing works. Any ideas?

Check that the system language is the same as the Google Assistant language - I'm using English UK just because I prefer the accent & it's working fine - But I remember when I started messing around with it at one point Google Assistant wasn't working for me until I had the language settings properly set up.

I was hoping that was it but they're set to the same language!

Try switching languages to English UK for example - Here's my Settings for both System & Google Assistant - Copy my settings & you should be good to go 🕊️

edit: never mind found it. still not working.

Yeah you have to Click on English and then you'll get a list of all the different countries with English.
And if it's still not working for you - Clear Cache & Data for Google & Reboot - Go back to Google Search Settings & check the Language again.

yup was able to find it, change it but still no luck.

do you have any smart display or speaker at home? coz there's an option that will turn off your google assistant when using smart display or speaker. i just forgot where is that..

I do but even before I had to google home this feature still wasn't working

Try restarting your phone.
That problem had happened to me couple of times.
Restart works.
