Galaxy Note
My Note 8 notified me the SD card needed to be swapped out. Sometimes the SD would not appear until a reboot, which also affected locations where files were stored.
I recently tried doing a backup with SmartSwitch selecting SD as well but I know the resulting backup size could not include the media files I have on the SD.
I tried transferring the SD files only with the phone USB to the computer, but the Android folder size does not match though the properties dialog may not have access to count some data that may have actually moved. I removed the original card and tried without the phone. The data sizes seemed to match between new and old.
When I put the new card into the phone it seemed to function OK but when I tried a backup it stuck on email 50%. I finally cancelled.
Any ideas, experiences, or suggestions on transferring the SD card contents ONLY? The SD card does not appear to be backing up and I have no recent backup to reliably restore the whole phone from backup.
If I can move the user data files like doc's, music, etc will all(94 currently) folders for apps in the Android folder on the card restore by themselves?
Thank you

place you SD card directly into your PC and transfer that way... I find it much easier and safer.

Thanks @Echo for you suggestion!
@BillieBob I would try what Echo has suggested and insert your SD card directly into your computer to transfer the files.

"I removed the original card and tried without the phone. " Already did that. I finally decided to remove the .android_secure, FOUND.000 and LOST.DIR directories from the new sd card, leaving everything else there before putting the new card in the phone. The LOST.DIR had already been re-created. I deleted the windows system volume folder.
I am getting a notification 'SD card. Tap here to transfer media files' but nothing happens when I click on it. (see attached) The notification does not clear even with a restart.
Also, and I've seen this before and still don't know what to do about it, a message(see attached) popped up 'Please select your SD card first'. That was in a third party File Manager I have used for ages. I went to the samsung app My Files and it deleted fine. The app settings are fine but it does imply a default or permission issue but I cannot see where.
So my questions are 1. why am I getting a notification to transfer media files, why does it do nothing and why does it not clear? All the files are already on the new sd card.
2. Why the subject sd card message and what would actually be the correct selection and why? None of the options really seem to be relevant.
Thank you

Addition: now clicking on the notification opens My Files app. ... but the media files are right where they were before....? Confusing
I use Poweramp for music and did have to go in and reset the folder location and a rescan has it working fine. The notification to transfer media files is still there.
I have a software update pending and don't know if that will cause problems as is.
