I am having difficulty charging my phone. The charger is about 2 months old because the old one stopped working.

This new one worked quite fine until today, no matter what outlet I put it in, it gives the impression for one second that it will charge and then doesn't. What do I do? I've trying all day.

I'm down to 15%.

Hi JudsMcC,

It sounds frustrating when your phone won’t stay charging, especially after replacing the charger recently. Here are some structured steps you can try to narrow down the cause:

  • Inspect the cable for bends, frays, or loose connectors. Even a small break can interrupt charging.

  • Try a different cable with the same adapter, or a different adapter with the same cable, to see which part is failing.

  • Test with another outlet (which you’ve already done) but also avoid extension cords or surge protectors temporarily.

Check the Phone’s Charging Port

  • Look inside the port with a flashlight. Dust or lint can block proper contact.

  • Clean gently using a soft brush or compressed air (avoid sharp objects).

  • Check for looseness: if the cable wiggles too much inside the port, the port itself may be worn or damaged.

  • Software & Battery Settings

  • Restart the phone to clear temporary glitches.

  • Safe Mode test: Boot into safe mode to rule out third‑party apps interfering with charging.

  • Battery health: If your phone has a battery health option in settings, check if it reports issues.

Rule Out Hardware Issues

  • Try another charger entirely

  • If the phone charges fine with another charger, your current one has failed.

  • If no charger works, the issue is likely with the phone’s charging port or battery.

On Samsung devices, you can run a diagnosis to check the health of your hardware and software. Samsung provides built‑in tools through the Samsung Members app and device settings. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Open the Samsung Members app (pre‑installed on most devices).

  • Tap on Support at the bottom.

  • Select Phone diagnostics or Interactive checks.

  • You’ll see a list of tests (battery, screen, sensors, charging, network, etc.).

  • Run the tests one by one to identify any issues.

Since you’ve already tried multiple outlets and the issue persists after trying with all the above steps, we recommend visiting a Samsung service center so a technician can test the port and battery.

If nothing works trying to charge it with a charging adapter then try wireless charging

Update: I ended up finding a computer and it charged. Fast charge didn't work though. It took 2 hours to charge. Fast charge hadn't worked since November 16.

Today, the battery got down to 1%. When I plugged it in, fast charging worked.
