Galaxy S1- Remove Message shortcut from home screen
- Go into settings and turn off badge count for Messages
- Clear cache for Messages
- Turn your phone off, reboot into recovery and wipe cach
- After reboot, turn badge count back on
- if possible have someone send you a text and check if the badge count appears on the Message app in the App Drawer
- If it does appear, put Messages shortcut back on your home screen
- If not, I'm all out of ideas except for a Factory Reset
