I have a Samsung s9 and I downloaded the official twrp app from Google play and I cant boot into it. I tried holding the bixby and volume buttons and it didnt work. Also i heard people say you need to enable OEM unlocking but my phone doesnt have that. Any help wold be appreciated.
you can't install twrp with the google store version until you flash a custom recovery with Odin aka twrp. or have a preinstalled custom rom that has root access.
You can't flash TWRP without a computer. You need Odin & the correct TWRP file to flash it. You'll also need Samsung's USB drivers to connect your phone to your computer.
It sounds more & more that you don't have the knowledge to do this?
Ok the videos I watched showed that I dont need a pc. I dont know if they are true or not but the videos I watched showed that I do not need a computer
Go to xda & search for your phone, if it's the S9 it's SM-G960W.
I don't know what videos you were looking at, but I warned you about any of the "one click" root junk, they are full of spyware & malware, so DON'T even try using them!
In order to flash twrp, you HAVE to use Odin & you HAVE to be able to go to Settings & toggle OEM UNLOCK, but you can NOT do that with your phone, because it has a locked bootloader!
You can get "root" with another legitimate method, but it doesn't have twrp & it has some other limitations.
Look for samPWND or samFAIL I don't remember which, or search for the recognized developer by the username of "elliwigy". You can trust him, but be advised that he is not going to hold your hand.
