Hi

I bought a new Unlocked S20 5G on Friday from Best Buy and returned it yesterday. I was under the impression that the e-sim in the phone was enabled. It was not.

Is there any confirmation or date that this will happen with a software upgrade or not? I am about to buy another iPhone but love the feel of the Samsung. My friend also returned his as there is no confirmation and everything is very unclear....

I need the e-sim for my business line.

Regards

Michél

I did a Google search and found that the Samsung S20, S20+ and the S20 Ultra are the phones that accept the e-sim card. It is the Galaxy S20 5g that only takes dual nano-sim cards.

Nope, they apparently all take e-sims..depending on the region. This is so stupid. They have lost a $ 3000 deal by not enabling it in Canada..

Waiting for a confirmation before I go iPhone. At least you get what you pay for, but the Samsung is nice. Would love to have an e-sim version.

I disagree with you. Unless the Moderators correct me, but not all Samsung Galaxy S Canadian series phones take the e-sim card

I had the same response from Telus for my S21 saying they cannot take an eSim card

Hi lupinaro,

eSIM requires a wireless service plan and allows you to activate a mobile network plan without the use of a Nano SIM. eSIM availability may vary depending on country and carrier. As of now, no Canadian carriers are supporting eSIM.

Many thanks for the answer. Question is. If I buy a canadian o e now, will they activate e-sim later?  That is the deciding factor. +/- time frame if they do?  Or should I give it a miss!!

Lies. All major Canadian carriers support eSIM. An incredibly quick and easy search of "[Your carrier] eSIM] would prove it. Google Pixels and iPhones have eSIM support in Canada and carriers will gladly accept it. Also, your gosh darn LTE smartwatches rely on eSIM to work. Tell me why would Canadian carriers sell them in Canada if they don't support eSIM?

All major carriers in Canada support eSIM. It's just an arbitrary decision from Samsung Canada like the one to lock bootloaders or remove the mobile hotspot toggle.

Carriers that support eSIM:
Bell
Fido
Freedom
Koodo
Lucky Mobile
Rogers
Telus
Virgin

I agree. I have an iPhone 11 pro max on Telus with an e-sim. No problem. So I need the S20 to do the same. Waiting for confirmation before I give up. Mabe Twitter Korea will have an answer seeing that no one can confirm software activation
