The former A10e model gave user the option to delete an entire thread of texts OR to make selections within the thread by tapping a check mark beside it leaving the contact person in tact.

The Galaxy S22 however only allows the entire thread to be deleted, which deleted the contact person as well as the specific notification sounds set up for each contact.
Is there something I'm not seeing to prevent this?

If your question is about Samsung Messages you can remove the messages by selecting all and then unselect a few messages to not remove the contact person and specific notification sounds

These are messages rec'd through my service provider and unlike my former phone, this S22 does not allow selections to be made within a thread. The only option it gives is to delete the entire thread

It does allow me to long hold on messages to delete them however it has to be done with every single message. So if I want to preserve the last 5 messages and remove the other, for example 250, then I have to long hold each single one rather than selecting ALL and then tapping out the ones I still need

Strange - I also have a S22

Are you going to the person you want to delete messages for and then go to 3 dots in top right corner, select delete messages, select all in top left corner and then unselect a message or 2 to preserve the settings with that person

The 3 dots does open the menu to show the delete. It doesn't however let me select within the thread. It pops up a flag that says the entire conversation will be deleted and cannot be undone once prompted.

I've had this phone since Jan 2023 and have had this issue right from the start.
It's such a basic and useful feature so have always been stumped why it's not in the (at that time) the latest model

You could try going to settings, apps, Messages - the Samsung one, scroll down to Storage and select it and then clear cache at the bottom of the screen and restart your phone and see if it helps and if not repeat and select clear data and restart your phone.

Hopefully one or other will clear the problem
