Can you please remove this silly and artificial limitation with Samsung DeX?
Using my original Samsung DeX Station with my S10+, I can display more than 5 apps on screen at once.
Using my (technically superior) Hewlett P. Elite X3 Desk Dock, I get the "no more than 5 apps" message.
Stop artificially limiting this function, especially since Samsung doesn't even sell a first-party desk dock any longer. Absolutely infuriating that Samsung is gimping DeX like this unless you use a Samsung dock/cable (or some random 3rd party options which seem to have skirted this limitation somehow).
There is absolutley no reason why my X3 dock cannot support more than 5 apps on screen the same as the DeX Station allows.
Any update on the reason Samsung accessories can display more than 5 apps at once (up to 20) while others cannot? Where is the 5 app "limit" coming from (clearly there is a known reason otherwise there wouldn't be a toast notification that mentions it in DeX when trying to run more than 5).
It has been almost 2 weeks since your original reply - any update?
On another note, I suspect this is the same limit that is being imposed which is restricting output resolution for these docks and cables. Out of my three docks, only my DeX Station can output the full 3440x1440 resolution of my monitor. Even my monitor's (Dell U3419W) direct USB-C connection can't display more than 1080p from my S10, despite it having no problem displaying the full 3440x1440 when connected to any other PC device.
Samsung is shooting itself in the foot by imposing these silly restrictions on DeX functionality and it's a really bad look. Again, this wouldn't be so annoying if Samsung actually offered good first-party solutions, but as mentioned, they no longer do.
Definetly frustrating if anything. Especially with the specs of the new note 20 5g ultra, which having the cpu that it does, and the 12gB of ram. I find it especially quick compared to some laptops out there. Cheers.
Hi Samsung Members, We are trying to optimize and display as many apps as possible on Samsung DeX through the internal verification process. We are communicating internally with app developers to ensure that more apps can be optimized for Samsung DeX and thus function adequately.
How is that related to the issue indicated in the original post? The issue is Samsung limiting the number of active apps to 5 when using any adapter or dock that is *not* a DeX Station or Pad.
When using my DeX Station I can have more than a dozen active apps on screen. When using any other dock or adapter it is limited to 5 and then the 6th causes the oldest app to close.
That is a Samsung issue, not a developer issue, given using a DeX Station or Pad removes this limitation.
If you can explain otherwise then please shed some light on the difference in behaviour and why it happens.
