Hello community. Is there a way to set up Google messages to be able to send texts to certain numbers 24/7, and other numbers stop from certain times. Like not be able to send or receive during a certain time?
Not sure if this makes sense or not.
Thanks

Off hand, I don't think that it's possible to do exactly what you want. You can schedule texts to be sent at specific times & dates.

As for preventing texts from being received.. Do Not Disturb is really the only thing you can do.. so long as they aren't in the "exception" group of your Contacts.

Let me try again, I want the phone to be able to text 2 numbers all the time. But not send or receive any texts between certain hours overnight. It's my kids phone, so trying to limit the time they use text

K, I understand what it is you're trying to accomplish, but I'm not sure if it's possible..

I know that you used to be able to prevent phones from calling any numbers, except for those that were permitted...but I don't know if that's possible now? It also may not work for texts..

There MIGHT be a a Setting in "Kid's" Mode, but I have never used it before. Try enabling Kid's mode on their phone, and see if there's any settings that would allow you to limit the numbers dialed & received?

Thank you @RedDogRabbit! Just wasn't sure if I explained fully lol. I'll keep searching around and messing with the phone. Much appreciated!

Hi Jaybird11,

As of now, Google Messages does not natively support time-based restrictions for texting specific contacts.

You're taking a thoughtful approach to managing your child's phone usage. While most smartphones don’t offer built-in settings to restrict texting by time and contact, there are a few ways you can achieve this using parental control tools and third-party apps.

Recommended Solutions

1. Use Samsung’s Built-in Parental Controls

  • Samsung Kids Mode: Allows you to restrict app usage, but doesn’t offer fine-grained control over texting.

  • Digital Wellbeing & Parental Controls:

    • Go to Settings > Digital Wellbeing & Parental Controls

    • Set Bedtime mode to limit phone access during specific hours

    • Pair with Google Family Link for more control

2. Google Family Link

  • Set daily screen time limits and bedtime schedules

  • Block apps (like Messages) during restricted hours

  • Allow specific contacts via approved apps (e.g., Google Contacts)

  • To allow texting only two numbers at all times and block all others overnight:

    • Use a parental control app to whitelist those two contacts

    • Set a schedule to block messaging apps during overnight hours

    • Optionally, disable mobile data or Wi-Fi during those hours to prevent app-based messaging
