Assuming your sound is working for other apps, have you browsed the settings in google messages, or have you tried going into settings / notifications / app notifications / google messages / and select the types of events you get notifications for

Edit: I recently found out that for some reason you can't select specific events you want notifications for and can only turn on and off notifications for an app in one ui 7, works on my samsung s10

You can also set unique Notification sounds for people you text with. Click on a conversation & then Details & you can use custom Notifications for that Contact.

Hi Gspart,

Certainly! If sound notifications for incoming text messages have stopped working on your Samsung Galaxy device—even though sound is turned on—here are several steps you can try to resolve the issue

  1. Check App Notification Settings

    • Go to Settings > Apps > Messages > Notifications.

    • Ensure “Allow notifications” is enabled.

    • Tap on Notification categories and confirm that “New messages” is turned on with sound.

  2. Verify Sound Settings

    • Go to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Notification sound.

    • Make sure a valid sound is selected and the volume is turned up.

  3. Clear App Cache

    • Go to Settings > Apps > Messages > Storage.

    • Tap Clear cache (not Clear data).

  4. Check Do Not Disturb Mode

    • Go to Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb.

    • Make sure it’s turned off or properly configured to allow message alerts.

  5. Disable Battery Optimization

    • Go to Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Background usage limits.

    • Ensure Messages is not restricted.

  6. Update the Messages App

    • Open the Galaxy Store or Google Play Store.

    • Check for updates to the Samsung Messages or Google Messages app.

  7. Restart Your Device

    • A simple reboot can often resolve notification issues after updates.

If none of these steps work, consider switching temporarily to another messaging app like Google Messages to see if the issue persists.
