Hi jd65,

It sounds frustrating that your primary microphone is not working while the second microphone works fine.

Check for Blockages: Ensure the primary microphone (typically located near the bottom of the device, close to the charging port) isn't blocked by dust, lint, or debris. Use a soft brush to clean the area gently.

Test with Voice Memos or Recorder: Open the Voice Recorder or Samsung Notes app and try recording something.

Make sure you're speaking near the bottom of the phone (where the primary microphone is located).

Play the recording back and check if the sound is clear. If you hear nothing or muffled sound, this indicates the primary mic issue.

Test with Calls and Other Apps: Test during regular calls, video recordings, or use Google Assistant. Make sure you're speaking directly into the primary microphone (bottom of the phone).

If it's still not working, try a third-party recording app to ensure the problem isn't app-related.

Check Settings: Go to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Sound quality and effects. Ensure that any settings related to microphone use or noise reduction aren't interfering with the mic's function.

Safe Mode: Sometimes, third-party apps can conflict with hardware. Try booting into Safe Mode to see if the issue persists without third-party apps running:

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Power button until the Samsung logo appears, then release it.
  • Immediately press and hold the Volume Down button.
  • Keep holding the Volume Down button until the device fully boots.
  • In Safe Mode, test the primary microphone again. If it works, the issue is likely related to an app you installed. You can uninstall apps one by one to pinpoint the culprit.

Since you've mentioned running Samsung Diagnostics. Ensure that you specifically tested the microphone feature in the app to confirm whether the primary mic is working.

If the diagnostic tool shows the microphone is not functioning, it may indicate a hardware failure.

If nothing works, as a last resort please get the device examined by the service technician by visiting the nearest Samsung authorized service center to get it fixed.

Thank you.
