I am trying to access my external hard disk that is attached to my airport extreme (that is connected to my router) using the myfiles app. It comes up with the correct address and is using port 445 but cannot seem to connect. I have been able to do this with the 3rd party app RS File Manager using the same username and password. Has anyone had this issue? Any solutions?

In case anyone else hits this page. Using the account name on the windows 10 box (an email address) didn't work. Creating an old school local user worked straight away.

I am also experiencing the same issue from long time. How come third party applications are able to connect to the network drive but not through the My files app. Is it because of the SMB1 protocol that my router requires? I am using Linksys wifi router with SSD connected to its USB, for sharing. I am able to access the drive using my windows 10 pc and in the mobile through 3rd party application.

I tried to chat with Samsung agents, it is no use. I am experiencing some problem with the website. After couple of messages I am not able to reply to them. Once I was suggested to soft reset the phone. Which I did. But no use.

To bump an old thread, I have found a solution that worked for me.

I was trying to sign in with my hotmail email address and password but kept getting the ' make sure the address and other info is correct' error.

The way I got it working was to do the following.

In Windows, Go down to the search bar and look for 'add, edit,  or remove other users'

Click on 'add someone else to this pc'

Go through the hoops of making a user. Skip all the steps requiring an email address.

I named my account 'android' and gave it my usual password.

Then in the my files app I just used the username and password I just made and it worked right away.

If you cant see any files you probably have to allow viewing to 'everyone' under Properties-sharing-advanced sharing-permissions.

I have the same problem on tplink router + usb drive, I use FX commander to do the job, but it sounds too lame for built in file manager inability.

You can connect with FX commander, Total Commander without any question about port, username, password, address... to external hard drive attached to WDTV, only factory Samsung Files ask and refuse to connect with any version.

after 3 hours of opening port 445 on windows defender, adding a rule to allow connections for port 445 on my router, reserving an IP so it does not change as I have VPN, disconnecting my VPN - this is the solution that worked.

Mucho gracias
