I have an S23 Ultra. I have checked almost every setting possible according to other answers on here but haven't been able to fix the issue. Gmail used to only notify me if I received two or more emails. I found the toggle to receive a notification for every email and turned it on. Now, I don't receive any notifications and only see new emails once I open the Gmail app. Or sometimes I receive a notification some time after the email was actually received. I want to get a notification every time I receive an email, and to receive it as soon as I get the email with no delay.

Facebook Messenger has also been a pain. Notifications weren't popping up over apps, the notification icon was just popping up in the top left corner of my screen when I received a message. I found the toggle for appear over apps was turned off, so I turned it on. However, it made no difference.

Are you enabling Gmail Notifications in the app only, or in Settings > Notifications > Gmail AND > Notification Categories?

I've got notifications enabled in both the app and in my phone settings.

Hi jessiejanski,

Please try the below steps and see if this resolve your notification issues

Battery Optimization: Set Gmail to "Unrestricted" in Settings > Apps > Gmail > Battery.

Background Data: Enable background data in Settings > Apps > Gmail > Mobile Data & Wi-Fi.

Sync Settings: Ensure Sync Gmail is on in Gmail settings.

Clear Cache: Clear Gmail's cache in Settings > Apps > Gmail > Storage.

Messenger Pop-Up fix:

Overlay Permissions: Enable Appear on top in Settings > Apps > Messenger.

Notification Categories: Check chat head settings in Settings > Apps > Messenger > Notifications.

Thank you.

Hi, thank you for that. I tried everything for Gmail and everything you said was either already tried or already in place. I'm getting most of my email notifications as soon as they come in, but some are still being delayed. For Facebook Messenger, appear over top was turned off even though I turned it on before so that fixed it.
