Have any of you noticed that your phone now shows 5G when it's not actually ON 5G?
I know I'm in an area that doesn't have 5G yet, and it's showing 5G in the status bar. Speed tests and network info apps confirm it. I'm on band 2 LTE+

This started with the OneUI 2.5 (BTH2) update from the end of August.

@Techhead - Found it from Rogers website. Maybe that is why. I am on Infinite plan, with 5G device and 5G now cover Calgary. So free until next year March.

Oh I know that we get it free for now, I was just referring to the fact the it shows 5G on my phone now (after the latest update) when I'm not in a 5G coverage area.

Imagine having to pay 15$/month for the privilege of having scarcely placed spots where that small LTE in the top right of your screen turns into 5G while retaining all the LTE characteristics. Thanks for being so generous Rogers in graciously allowing Data+InfinitelySlow subscribers to experience that for free for a year until your NSA network achieves decent coverage.

I genuinely hope that most people on those plans do not opt-in/do opt-out of the 5G tax.

its so dumb carriers are going to charge for the network you are already paying for in your plan. I am definitely not paying extra. whats next charges for LTE

Yea. Until mmWave is everywhere, 5G is just a gimmick that 99% of people don't need. Same speeds as LTE+ with slightly better latency, and they want to start charging extra for it? I'll pass.

Check the Verizon coverage map. mmWave is also a gimmick, as coverage only extends to street corners. 5G as a whole was a poorly thought out idea. Whomever proposed NSA networks needs to be fired. The new 5G packet core is cool though (but you need SA networks).

They needed the next big thing to try and sell devices/charge more and they named it 5G.

I get that mmWave is bloody fast.... if you are standing 2 feet from the tower.... in a straight line.

Yep. We know. It's NSA 5G. That's what we're talking about.
