Hello
With my previous Samsung S21 cell phone, I can connect to Android Auro to my supported 2016 Honda Accord car and it work smoothy till I change to Samsung S23 and I can't connect to Android auto at all. Each time I try to connect by cable with my Samsung S23 to USB for Android auto, the message showed on car screen: GOOGLE MAPS NEED LOCATION ACCESS. WHEN IT'S SAFE GO TO LOCATION SEETING ON YOUR PHONE AND ALLOW ACCESS FOR MAP.
On my phone setting , under location is ON and under Android Auto:: Allow only while using the app and under Google: Allow all the time.
On App info: Android Auto: all permissions allowed
Android Auto updated, Google Map updated
Samsung S23 last version updated
Please help!

Change the Location permission for Android Auto from "only while using the app", to Always & try again.

Where do you see "Always"?

Hi, if you don't want to give access to your location on the map all the time, then you can change the Location permission for the Android Auto app to Allow only while using the app.

I'm having the same issue.. My wife has a new Galaxy S24+.

I've tried with her Equinox & my truck with Kenwood unit.

What's crazy.. I have Galaxy S8 that still works & the ver Android Auto: 11.8.641624  It's the same on both phones!?

I figured it out!!  After trying to connect with USB cable to Android Auto & you get the screen "Google Maps needs location access", open Google Maps "app", load a destination, answer the question "allowed" and you should be good to go.

Hello,
Im a bit late to the chat on this, but I have the very same issue with my new Samsung A55 (that didnt happen on my older A54). Did you ever find a solution, or still stuck having to manually approve 'permission' access every time?
Thank you
