I'm having a terrible time with a samsung galaxy s10 I bought in mid december.

The phone is claiming I'm using a tremendous amount of data, but when I go to the usage tracking, it's not showing where it's coming from. On my last billing cycle, it showed 6gigs of data (which is all I have from bell). But if you go to the app tracking and total how much I actually used, it's under 800mb. The annoying part is my carrier is actually reporting the 6gigs as well. I had an s8 before this, and I've never used more than 1gig in my life. If I browse on amazon for 15 minutes, it will use approximately 100mb of data. It's at the point where I cant use the phone outside of my home. I've read on android forums of people with Samsung's having this problem on the newest android update.

I've called samsung twice. They first had me reset my settings, and then my network settings. This did not help.

They then had me put my phone in safe mode for 24 hours (they actually took control of my phone to see the data usage and how it's not being tracked accurately, and they were shocked).

Being in safe mode did not help, meaning it cant be a third party app.

I'm at the point where I wish I didnt even upgrade or buy the phone, since I cant even use it. I'd greatly appreciate any help. Please!

samsung galaxy app store, google play store and FB are normally the culprits. check these 3 apps and make sure they are set to update on wifi only and make sure FB is set only to auto play video on wifi.

@CHMultimedia the total data usage shown in settings does not match the accumulated total of the apps it's showing. In fact the data usage apps and third party tracked apps added close to the same amount (only off by a few MB).

So it's definitely not showing some hidden system process/app in the background that is eating up the data.

Ok so this checks out, further supporting my theory. Unfortunately I don't have any device upgraded to OneUI2 so I'm unable to try a packet sniffer (like Wireshark) to try further to guess the culprit. But yes it's absolutely definitely a system component doing this.

Thanks for understanding @CHMULTIMEDIA and Vic. I hope I'm able to get help. At this point I want a different phone 😞

Wonder does Bell have a data widget that at least might help track your data? And I know this is a pain, use the mobile data QS tile to toggle data on/off when needed? At least until this hopefully gets fixed by Samsung.

I called Bell twice about the issue, complaining because I got a few bucks in overage charges. They told me it wasnt their problem, they assumed I was doing something wrong and to contact Samsung since the phone is under warranty. They never mentioned a widget. On bells ap it shows my total usage, and that's it. (It shows the same obscure number that my phone is showing.)

@CHMultimedia, if you think that would fix it, I'd love to do it. I hope it's not too complicated. I'm not a genius. Would be fairly simple to go to the newest update in the future? This problem started for me as soon as I got the phone, mid december .. would android 10 have already been on the phone?

If you want, you can rollback to Android 9 Kevintuna. I have the steps and required files on my website if you want. This bypasses the problem by avoiding the problematic software

Would I lose pictures and contacts etc on my phone?

You might. But just do a backup before you proceed and everything will be a-ok 🙂

It's not a complicated process and I will guide you step by step on my website (it's a post with a few images so don't worry about technicalities). You won't have any problem to get future updates either, but you will have to block updates for now as... well... they're making your data usage skyrocket.

Android 10 was released in mid December for the S10 series, so it's likely.
