I'm curious on why my s20 is flickering as if a screen shot or something is being taken. It does it every few minutes the last few days. I've checked the updates to make sure they all are up to date, cleared all the cache, adjusted the auto brightness settings, as well as Turing off and restarting as all were suggested and it is still doing the same thing.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Or the source of fixing it?

It may be related to this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Galaxy_S20/comments/okdu06

I suggest backing up all your files and going to Samsung to ask what your options are for repair.

It appears that almost all of devices in the Reddit link are Exynos devices, so I don't know if the same source of the flicker can be applied to the Snapdragon variant.

Temporarily disabling HW overlays may give some further insight into the issue?

Safe Mode or a Factory Reset could also help determine if it's a hardware or software issue.

Try Booting your phone into Safe Mode & see if it continues.

But Basically, the Android screen flickering issue occurs when the system hardware switches between the CPU & the GPU for displaying content on the screen. However, screen flickering is NOT normal & certainly not from a high end phone like the S20 series.

Although this is NOT a recommended solution, you could go into Developer Options & disable HW overlays. It's not recommended because you are taking away from the performance of your phone.

Since you said that you have already cleared cache, you could backup your phone with smart switch & factory reset it. It's not a guarantee that it will correct the problem, but a Factory Reset can fix a number of problems.

If you still have the screen flickering, then you can visit a Samsung Service center to have it checked out by a technician.

Hi, please try the safe mode as suggested by RedDogRabbit and get back to us with the results.

Safe mode can be used as a diagnostic tool that lets you run your device at the basic interface without any third-party apps. This helps to determine if the issue you are facing is due to an installed app.

1. Press and hold the power button or button combination you use to turn off your device until the power off screen appears
2. Tap and hold the Power off icon until the option for Safe mode appears
3. Tap Safe mode

If the flickering stops when your device is in Safe Mode, it could mean that the issue is being caused by a bug with one of the apps you have installed. Find out which app is causing the problem and uninstall it. Start by uninstalling the most recent app you downloaded before the problem started. Repeat until the flickering stops. You can always reinstall an app if it wasn't causing the issue.

If the flickering persists even in Safe Mode, it is likely the issue is hardware rather than software-related then you can try backup and reset.

Mine is doing the same and it has only been doing it since the latest update!

Also since the latest update, incoming calls and texts are being blocked. WHY!?

See the posts above & as for calls & texts you could try the same suggestions as well as reset your network connections.

I'm quite certain that the update is not the cause of the flickering or issues with calls & texts.

I also have the S20 Ultra 5G running One UI V3.1 & no such issues whatsoever.

I do however boot into recovery and wipe cache after every update & if the update is an Android version update, then I always backup my phone with smart switch & factory reset. In more than a decade, I've never had any problems.

It's not recent app downloads as the majority of apps have been on this cell for quite some time.
I've had Samsung for over 14 years and never had a flickering issue or incoming calls and texts from friends being auto blocked.

These issue have only happened since the last update on Sept. 8.

Hi Grammie, I suggest you backup and reset. Here are the steps to backup your data:

Backup from Samsung account--Apps > Settings > Cloud > Backup > Select the data > Back up now.

Backup from Google account--Apps > Settings > Backup and reset.

Here are the steps for factory reset, settings>>General management>>Reset>>Factory data reset>>Scroll down to the bottom and tap on Reset>> Delete All.

And do I get stuff off the cloud and back on to the Cell?
Do I have to reinstall EVERYTHING if I do a reset or will the cloud put it all back?

Whenever I get a new cell, Samsung Switch moves it all to the new cell for me.

If I have to reinstall everything again, apps, contacts, etc....I'm not going to be happy.
