Galaxy SHi, Please check that there are no issues regarding your screen protector.
Ensure that the screen protector or the touchscreen on the fingerprint sensor area is not scratched or damaged.
Also we recommend you to perform Wipe cache on your device.
This will not erase personal data on the phone.
It deletes temporary cache files in the phone.
Below are the steps to perform clear cache partition.
1.Turn off the unit.
2.Press and hold the volume up button and press and hold the on/off button. When the Android logo is displayed, release all keys ("Installing system update" is displayed before displaying the Android system recovery menu options).
3.Press the volume down key repeatedly to highlight "wipe cache partition".
4.Press the Power key to select. Press the Volume Down button to highlight "Yes" and press the Power button to select. When the wiping of the cache partition is completed, "Reboot System Now" is highlighted.
5.Press the Power button to reboot the unit.
Once your device has restarted, try to use your fingerprint again.

Galaxy STry this:
- Go to Settings > Apps & Click on the 3 Dot Menu middle right > Show System Apps & Search for "Biometrics" > Click on it & Scroll down to Storage > Clear BOTH Cache & Data & Reboot. You'll need to Register your Finger Prints / Face again. See if that works for you.

Galaxy SOpen the Samsung Members app & Click on Support > Phone Diagnostics & run the Diagnostics for the Finger Print Scanner (Recognition). See if you get any error messages?
You may need to visit a Samsung Service Centre to get it checked out by a tech if you get any error.
