So, it's Jan 7, 2025, and no Dec security patch in Canada for the S23 Ultra! There's also been no communication about it either. Is Samsung Canada just going to wait for One UI 7 to come out instead, leaving our phones vulnerable due to outdated updates?

The 7th you say! Wow.. 😂

Samsung has never communicated regarding OTAs.

The S23 was something like 3 months behind last fall.. I didn't lose any sleep, get hacked or see my S23 Ultra starting to do tricks on it's own..

I think that it'll be okay 😊

😂😂 I was hoping the moderator would provide some sort of update. It is a big deal for me when you have a top of the line phone, you expect to get regular updates or at least hear something about security updates. I'll never settle for silence as it's hard earned money I spent and I won't give Samsung any passes for delayed security updates.

I get where you're coming from, but I don't recall Samsung, or Samsung Members Canada Moderators, ever comment on any upcoming Updates, One UI, or Security Patch Updates..

Even in the Notice section, it's rarely ever updated, and it's occasionally just been wrong..

It's not a great answer, but I really believe that part of the problem is that Samsung has SO MANY devices..

Google has a couple, same with Apple... I don't really keep track of One Plus, or other OEMs... but I think that it's safe to say that no other OEM has anywhere near as many different devices as Samsung...

I don't know if you are old enough to remember, but in the Auto industry GM & Ford had so many sub manufacturers, it was ridiculous.. the effort of trying to be all things to all people, just isn't viable in the long run.

Yeah I know. Something Samsung should start doing is posting when updates will come out in regions. Even if they gave the expectation of security updates happening every 2 months, I'd be fine with that. I just think it's sad. Their top of line phones like the Ultras and the Z Fold should be getting regular (within the same month) updates considering these are top paying customers. Yeah there are a lot of devices to update, but that just means Samsung needs a robust and efficient tech team to get the job done. I had a couple OnePlus phones and I got updates probably every 3 months if I can remember, but their phones are awesome! And yeah I'm an 84' born guy so I do know about that. Lots of my family worked in this industry as I am from Windsor.

By commenting by Samsung or Samsung Members Canada Moderators not commenting, you must mean specifically as a response in these or similar forums?

Samsung definitely has publically stated that the take the security patches very seriously and that they will be released monthly.

They distinguish this from devices that they offer quarterly updates.

I fully agree that it's a complex undertaking, and that they have a large number of devices to maintain. However, they are not required to acknowledge the importance of the updates, but they do. They are not required to promise monthly updates, but they have chosen to do so.

I don't think it's unreasonable for the OP to expect that they provide him with the service that they stated they would when they (or their dealer) accepted his money for the device.

Just to reiterate the massive number of devices supported by Samsung.

I don't think that there's any other OEM who supports so many devices. I do however certainly agree that the most expensive Flagship devices should always get priority service.

I can't sympathize on that basis. They knew how many devices and types of devices they were making when they made the customer the promise of a certain level of service. They should not promise a srvice that they can't deliver. That's where companies get themselves on the wrong end of class action suits.

Didn't ask for sympathy.

Just an explanation for the consumer.

Samsung like any other OEM who uses Android, has 90 days to produce Security Patch Updates in their agreement with Google.

I laugh whenever anyone says "class action".

No where has any Manufacturer guaranteed any time frame or dates for ANY Update, Security Patch or Android version.

You may think that you're entitled to something, but that's not how it works.

I wholeheartedly agree with you for sure on this point! But alas this is not something the company seems to want to uphold anymore the older these devices get. But it seems that now the update process will also change with the S25 series as well, so I'll be looking to upgrade anyways this year or next year to get that benefit.
