S8 unexpect factory reset

hello,
got the phone from Rogers... prior to insert sim card I setup the phone with my google account and update all my apps and profile.

however once I have the sim card insert... the phone immediately restart and proceed to factory reset. i wasted my hours of efforts to have the phone updated.

How can i avoid these type of episode when im traveling and use foreign sim card ?

my question is why would you set up your phone before putting in the sim card?

to save on data... I always do it when I get a new phone...

I travel a lot and use foreign SIM cards and it's fine.
I am thinking did that just because it was a new phone and once its sorted and you have a SIM in it it will be fine...

Just a fyi when you get a new phone set it to update on Wi-Fi only that way you can put yoyr SIM in it straight off.

once you put in the sim it locks it to that provider hence the reset

If you get the phone unlocked, you will not have the same experience again when you insert a different sim.

Use smart switch PCor Mac software for Samsung to backup your phone on computer.
