Why doesn't Samsung email display popup notifications when a new email arrives anymore?

In every other app on the planet, when a message comes in, you get a little message appear at the top of your screen.

Why did Samsung disable this? There is no way to turn it back on, and I've tested this on 3 different Samsung phones (Galaxy S8, S10+, and S20+).

Its weird because:
  • the notification sound is played,
  • the badge on the Samsung Email icon updates,
  • If you pull down the notification shade, you will see the email notification
But no message ever appears at the top of the screen when the message arrives!

I have troubleshooted this extensively:
  • Notifcations are set to ON (all options),
  • Samsung Email it's not being 'optimized',
  • Adaptive notification are set to OFF,
  • Samsung Email has not been out to aleep
Samsung, please explain why you've done this.

Hello, the solution is after enabling all the notification go back and press the three bars again, then select the account that you need to set the notifications for, then on the Email sync schedule choose auto. you will be good to go.

CORRECTION: I didn't initially follow your instructions correctly. I didn't see the sub menu in "New Emails"... and I see that "show as popup" is OFF... OK, maybe this is the setting that will fix this :)

Yes, show as pop up needs to be on. See my screenshot.

I have the same Samsung Email version like yours.

Amazing... that seems to have fixed it! I had every notification toggle turned on, but didn't know about the sub menu that only appears when you touch "New Emails" (in green). I had only touched the toggle (in red), which doesn't reveal the sub menu.

Wow... that is crazy how hidden that is. There is no indication there is a sub menu there.

Thanks to everyone who assisted with this! I really appreciate it. My OCD was off the charts with this one :)

But I still don't know why this is set to off by default for new installs... and why these sub menus are hidden like this. It should say "New Emails..." or something to provide some clue that it has a sub menu.

Thanks again

Glad we can help. I am not sure why this is turned off initially. Maybe OneUI style? I don't know.

Anyway, can you mark this as a solution by clicking 3 dots on top right of the post so that others can search this post as a solution? Thanks!

Hello.  I am following this thread and having a similar problem with my new A42 5G.  I am not getting alerts for Gmail notifications.  Initially, it worked and notifications were coming in for two synched Gmail accounts.  It stopped after about 3 weeks.  In particular, it appears all of the settings are turned on in the Gmail app.  I know this thread is over a year old, but do you have any other suggestions?
