I apologize in advance for what may seem like a stupid question but I'm very new to Android.
I plugged my phone (Galaxy S9) into my computer using the Samsung usb-c cable to transfer music onto it and discovered that it transfers horrifically slow. Like, I could have redownloaded my music on a 56.6k modem faster kinda slow.

Coming from an iPhone, this seems very backwards as the iPhone transfers quickly and effortlessly.

Can anyone tell me why this is? I have USB debugging turned on and I'm using the provided Samsung cable. I'm trying to transfer from a Windows 8 laptop.

Before anyone suggests using the cloud (Dropbox, etc), I'm trying to transfer 30GB of music to the microSD card in my phone which is a Samsung highspeed card as well. What are my other options?

Between this and not being able to play music through my car stereo via USB, I'm seriously thinking about getting back into an iPhone. There are a lot of good features on the S9 but it really could be more user friendly. Somethings are way more difficult than they need to be.

Try transferring some music to the internal storage and see if it is faster. That might narrow down where problem lies if there is a noticeable difference (which there might be as
the transfer rates to the SD card is likely to be a lot slower than to the internal storage).

It could also be the cable or the USB port on your computer.

30 Gig is a significant amount of Data to transfer - You can use Smart Switch to transfer - OR you can just use Direct Transfer by selecting the Storage location on your phone and then copy it to the location you want on your Computer... The limitations of the USB port & the speed of the SD card and the Write speed of the Computer are going to dictate the speed of the Transfer 🐧

oh yeah, Syncing with iCloud and iTunes and being able to transfer nothing except music and some photos/videos is so much better and simple than just copying/pasting whatever you want 😂 i have an iPad and iPhone 7 Plus and an S8+ so I know the truth.
Anyway, now to answer your real question. Use a microsd 3.0 card reader, it takes me less than 2 minutez to transfer 10GB music on my SanDisk 128GB card, then I insert it back on my S8+.

I just take my sd card out of the phone and but it in the pc itself.... find it so much easier that way to transfer my music....

Hey @efritsch the Android file transfer protocol (i.e. when transferring files over USB 2.0/3.0) works best with larger files going into the internal storage of the device. Small files do make transfer speeds slower. -Nick from Samsung
If you notice very slow speeds and suspect its a bug, try to submit an Error Report from within Members so we can take a look at the logs. -Nick from Samsung

By the way! A (more technical) workaround, try to ZIP the files (i.e. using TAR with no compression) and it will transfer faster as you will be dealing with one large file, and not multiple small files.
