Galaxy SHi, that's sad to see that the update caused the issue.
You can try Booting into Recovery Wiping Cache partition and also perform Safe mode and see if it resolves the touch screen issue.
If you wipe your cache partition, basically it removes any temporary files that may be causing some problems or issues with your device, all of your personal files and/or settings will not be affected when you wipe cache partition.
1. Hold the Power button and Volume Down to open the power options where choose the Power off.
2. When the screen goes dark press the Volume Up and Power keys together.
3. Let go of all held buttons when you see the Recovery mode on the screen.
4. Then you should select Wipe cache partition. Use Volume Up to navigate and the Power button to accept it.
5. Choose Yes and press the Power key to confirm that operation.
6. After that select Reboot system now with the Power key.
To enter Safe mode Power on your phone in Safe Mode
- Completely turn off your phone.
- Turn on your phone and press the Volume Down button when the Samsung logo appears.
- If "Safe Mode" shows up, you're successful. If not, try again.
- Uninstall the problematic app.
- Restart your phone to exit Safe Mode.
Terms:
- Safe Mode: A mode that runs your phone without third-party apps to help find the cause of issues.
- Third-party app: An app made by someone other than the phone's manufacturer.
- Volume Down button: A button on your phone used to lower the volume; here, it's used to enter Safe Mode.

Galaxy SSamsung is aware of this issue, which is affecting some devices running One UI V6.1.
There's supposed to be an update in the works, when it will arrive is unclear?
There's a "temporary fix". Go to Settings > Apps Search for the Google App & Clear Both Cache Data for the app & Reboot.
See if that works for you?
