I continually have an issue with Youtube playing the audio from videos but not playing the video itself. I just get a black screen and the only way around it seems to be to play a different video and then come back to the one I want. this approach works about 50% of the time.
I can confirm that this is an issue on my Samsung S8 only as the problem is not mimicable on my Tab S or my Pixel.
the phone is 2 weeks old and has had Youtube wiped with the problem persisting.
does anyone have any experience with this or know of a fix?

And this is happening with the YouTube app I am guessing correct?
Is this happening on all videos you try to watch on YouTube?
Well since there is no way to "delete" YouTube, I would try disabling it from your phone under Settings -> App, and then uninstall updates.
Then you can try to clear the cache and wipe the data from Storage
Then try to re-enable YouTube and give that a shot.
I have the S8 and I was unable to replicate the issue.
If the issue still persists, try launching Youtube from the browser...and if that works then defiantly an issue with the app. You may need to back up your data and perform a factory reset.
thank you

It is within the app only. It happens on probably about half the videos I try to watch. I will disable and wipe the app data again and hope this works though it did when I just wiped app data.

You could also just click on Force Stop under Settings - Apps - YouTube 😉🐧

Yeah but that's as much of a pain as having to load other videos to make the one I want to work play. I'm looking for the permanent just make videos play solution.

My son has this happen on his tablet. He just pushed the back button and selects the video again. It usually happens in full screen.

Uninstall and install Youtube again. It usually helps and solves the issue if you struggle or can't find a way to fix it.
