Went to Samsung experience store at Yorkdale today due to the screen protector on my fold 4 lifting in the middle where the crease is from normal wear and tear. I had put my phone in maintenance mode prior to handing it over to the Rep and I informed him. They let me know I would have to take it out of maintenance mode bc they wouldnt be able to properly run diagnostics on the phone while in maintenance mode. So I asked "then what is the point of maintenance mode?" To which he replied he wasn't sure. Like I don't understand this concept, why create a feature that won't work properly even at your own warranty store?

Maintenance mode is to protect user data being access by 3rd person while sending for repair. So, messages, pictures and account cannot be access. Also, only preinstall app will work.

In your case, if the tecnician needs to install diagnostic app on your phone, they need you to turn off maintenance mode so that they can install and run thier diagnostic software.

According to Samsung's website, technicians can download & Install apps while in Maintenance Mode. They can also run preinstalled apps, ie: Diagnostics is a preinstalled app.

"While in Maintenance mode, only the default apps will be active. While any apps downloaded in Maintenance mode will be accessible, they will be automatically deleted when Maintenance mode is deactivated." - Samsung

Hi, Maintenance mode is a setting mode to hide personal data and information by user on the device.

It protects users privacy and prevents personal data/information from leaking while someone else is using their phone such as when sending or leaving the device for repairs.

It creates a separate user account for accessing to a limited data and information which is excluded the personal data/information.

That method is using Multi User Mode(MUM) so that it provides another user account just for Maintenance mode.

The main function is as below.

Customer data protection (No access to photo / video, contact / message / call history and so on) App usage restriction (Only the preload system apps are available, re-authentication and re-login are required to use the apps) Automatically deletes data and accounts generated during Maintenance mode.

We recommend to back up the personal data/information before turning on the mode just in case user data may be deleted or device may be factory reset due to unintentional incident or component replacement such as Main board while repairing.

As said by Tallman, if the technician needs to install diagnostic app you need to exit from maintainance mode.

The last paragraph of your reply is false.

While in Maintenance Mode, the technician CAN download & Install apps needed for Diagnostics.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I sent my phone in to a 3rd party authorized repair shop and was told my device would be factory reset during the process. So I backed it all up and factory reset it myself and sent it in. But the point remains...if your phone gets factory reset during the process why does maintenance mode exist. Like I get WHY it exists but why does it metaphorically exist? Maybe technicians should learn more about how to do what they need to do without ALWAYS resorting to the nuclear option.

maintenance mode is an option when your phone is under maintenance.
