They also say you have to install Philips Hue first from Google Play Store

yup thanks, so I have the Phillips hue app downloaded and set it up, and then apparently I'm supposed to go to Samsung smartthings app and click on lights, Phillips hue, and then click the connect without a hub, but there's no option.

Once again I think it doesn't work in Canada which would be crazy. I think you have to have a stupid Samsung hub so that's another 70-100 bucks.

You don't need the Samsung hub. I connected my Hue bulbs without issue. However, Samsung I think wants you to get their hub instead now and removed the feature? I set up my bulbs a year ago. And I just installed 6 new bulbs this month as well as a Hue smart plug a few months ago. Smart Things automatically added them into my list of devices without me doing anything.

Only thing I can suggest is to scan the QR code on the bulbs (each bulb will have its own QR code at the base beside the serial number). Or maybe scan nearby devices and see if it picks them up.

Hi Habsfan,

If you do not have a SmartThings Hub, You can connect Philips Hue to SmartThings to access and control your Philips Hue devices from the SmartThings app.

Please note that it also mentioned as (This integration does not currently support local processing. Additionally, controlling Hue devices directly through the Philips Hue app will not automatically update those device states in the SmartThings app. If your device status is not updating, please wait up to 6 hours and check again).

To connect Philips Hue to SmartThings, set up your Philips Hue Bridge through the Philips Hue iOS or Android app first.

Second, in the SmartThings Classic mobile app:

  1. From the Home screen, touch the Plus (+) icon and select Add device
  2. Select Philips Hue
  3. Touch Lighting and select Philips Hue without SmartThings Hub
  4. Choose a Location for the device
  5. Choose a Room for the device and touch Next
  6. Enter your Philips Hue account email address and password, then touch Sign in
Note: At this time, only Philips Hue accounts can use this integration. If you sign into Philips Hue using a Google account, please change your Philips Hue login settings or contact Philips Hue support.
  7. Touch Yes
  8. Choose a Location and Room for the devices and touch Next
  9. SmartThings will automatically discover all of your Hue lights connected to that account.

If you still having the issue please contact the place of purchase.

The thing is, it doesn't give that option for Philips Hue without Smart Things hub.

Hi Vic20As mentioned by Cassidy, First install the Philips Hue app from the play store which you may have already done. Then to connect Philips Hue to SmartThings, Set up your Philips Hue Bridge through the Philips Hue app.

Then follow the above-mentioned procedure. If it didn't work.

Please contact Philips Hue Support.

@Kingsley, I've already setup the Hue bulbs with Smart Things and had them working for months. I just wanted to point out that the option to choose without the Smart Things hub is not there in Smart Things.

I can't recall how I got them connected as it has been months ago. I do know they do work without the Smart Things hub (though limited functionality).

all the articles I read says there should be a connect without a hub option, but in smart things its not there, so I'm guessing they removed it to force you to buy a Samsung hub. I was thinking about getting the Samsung mesh wifi system but I can't even see that in he Canadian site lol

There is one more thing you can try. Tap on 'Supported devices' and then tap on the bulb you have to try and initiate a search.
