I am unable to set Bixby as my default assistant on my S24 Ultra. Now, I usually fix all my issues on my own, because I'm great at that way, but after some intense research and troubleshooting, a remedy continues to elude me.

So here I am, seeking a different perspective, outside help. That could probably identify a solution that I didn't think of. On the list of Device Digital Assistants, there are only Google and Alexa.

Is there a way to fix this and get Bixby to be recognized and set as my device's default assistant? Bare in mind, I've tried all the recommended troubleshooting solutions that exist on the internet. Or should I just wait for the One UI 8.5 update, and hope that fixes everything?

Help! Anybody?

If you go to Settings, side button, long press you should be able to set Bixby as default assistant when you long press the side button1771072922020.jpg

Yeah, I was able to do that, but it's not the default assistant. Google is. Bixby responds to his name when call him up, as well as google, but google remains the default on my phone. Bixby isn't even showing on this list of assistants.

I was having a related issue but was specifically related to sidekey launch of default AI - If I set either Gemini or Bixby, the sidekey would seem to 'forget' which is the default and make me keep choosing.

I found there was a bug/conflict issues by interoperating with the traditional menu settings in conjunction with goodlock AI sidekey selection.

Might be too far from your issue (can't find Bixby) - but as a longshot - try disabling AI related functions in goodlock.

Im not even sure how you can't find Bixby, as its so heavily integrated with the OS. Obviously you are an advanced user, so I won't ask questions that id ask others.

Ok, I'll try that approach and see what happens. But I shared them same sentiment where not being able to find Bixby on the list of assistants is concerned. Let's see where I get this thing.

The default assistant app is now used for the side button long press. So if you don't want Bixby to be your default digital assistant when you long-press it, you can set the default digital assistant app to other apps (Google, ChatGPT, or others). If you have set the long press to Bixby, then Bixby is now your default digital assistant.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Update Bixby Services

    • Open the Galaxy Store and ensure Bixby Voice and Bixby Service are fully updated.

    • Restart your device after updating.

  2. Check Default Assistant Settings

    • Go to Settings → Apps → Choose default apps → Digital assistant app.

    • If Bixby is not listed, try clearing data for Bixby Voice under Settings → Apps → Bixby Voice → Storage → Clear data.

  3. Side Key Customization

    • Navigate to Settings → Advanced features → Side key.

    • Set the long‑press action to launch Bixby. This ensures Bixby responds as your assistant even if it doesn’t appear in the assistant list.

  4. Good Lock Modules (Optional)

    • If you’re using Good Lock customization modules, try disabling AI‑related functions temporarily. Some users have reported conflicts between Good Lock settings and the system assistant menu.
