Galaxy AHi, We recommend you to use Google Messages instead of preloaded Samsung MessagesApp.
•Download from Google Play store : Google Messages and set as default and verify now your issue is resolved.

Galaxy AWell that may be, but seems like there are some issues with Samsung's Messaging app & Samsung's Moderators are advising people to switch to Google's Messaging app (I've been using it all along).

Galaxy AThat's not really a fix though is it? I'm using the Samsung app because I like the layout and because you literally can't remove it from your phone. Are they really going to make it unusable AND undeletable?

Galaxy AI would think that either Samsung will fix it, or remove it from System apps, so that you can delete it if you want. You'll just have to wait for either an update to the app itself, or a Monthly Security Patch Update that includes removing it from the System.
Samsung is learning that there are some things that others are better at. Whether it's Messaging, Translate, A.I. like Google Assistant vs Bixby, or Cloud Storage moving to One Drive.

Galaxy AHi, Samsung's innovation in scale by joining forces with Google on a common messaging client as default messaging app, Samsung has preloaded Android Messages for default messaging application.
This new Android Messages was integrated with key features and services developed together by both Samsung and Google and is a common messaging client based on Android Messages, which incorporates core Samsung features such as the Multi Device Experience (MDE), Smart Switch and S Cloud, within a familiar Samsung One UI interface.
Samsung believes that this change will accelerate RCS(Rich Chatting Service) adoption and help our Galaxy users' messaging experiences more engaging and delightful.
We are glad that your issue is solved. Please write back to us if you require any further assistance.

Galaxy AIf you mean, did Samsung break the app on purpose, absolutely not. They were probably trying to fix something, and broke something else.
