Samsung A31 slow WiFi

Speedtest shows average 1Mbps, while my older smartphone (Sony Z5) shows average 3Mbps. When i create a hotspot with my laptop, i do however get average 3Mbps on the A31. All devices are on same Wifi. Already tried resetting A31 wifi settings, static IP, other dns and restarting my router. I have the same problem also with a A10s. Older Galaxy J1 mini core works fine. Any solutions?

Try resetting your your network setting
for that go to setting > search for reset network setting > it will have an option to reset your wifi, mobile data and Bluetooth network setting.

Hi Ashray,

Please make sure that the Power Saving mode is disabled and I suggest you to check your phone in Safe mode for 24 hours to diagnose the issue because third-party apps may cause unusual behavior of the phone. Safe mode to check if added apps are causing problems. This mode loads only basic system software and allows you to disable third-party apps.

First, completely power off the phone. Then, power on the phone, and when the Samsung logo appears, press and hold down the Volume Down key. If done correctly, "Safe Mode" will display on the bottom left corner of the screen.

To exit Safe Mode, simply restart your phone and it will reboot normally.

Note: You can also enter Safe Mode by pressing the Power key, touching and holding the Power off icon, and then touching the Safe Mode icon.

Also, Make sure that the device and apps are updated to the latest version.

Power saving mode is off. I tried the safe mode, but it's still slow.

Hi Ashray, are you doing speed test on your internet?

Also, are you using your phone as a hotspot, your laptop connected to hotspot and did the speed test on laptop?

Yes speed test of my internet.. On the laptop i created a hotspot and then connected the A31 to it.. Then doing speed test on the A31 gives 3Mbps. When the A31 is connected to the router; speedtest on the A31 gives 1Mbps.

Ok, first off, let's see how fast is your wireless connection. Open Settings -> Connections -> Wi-Fi

Click the gear icon on the far right under your wireless network name.

How fast is your network speed when you connected to router directly? And what is the network speed when you connected to laptop hotspot?

Ok i tested again and the results are: 

• When connected to the router: network speed is mostly 38 Mbps, but even went to 58 Mbps for a moment. Then i did speedtest, which gave 0.32 Mbps.
• When connected to the laptop hotspot: network speed is 65 Mbps. Then i did speedtest, which gave 5.5 Mbps.

The laptop hotspot is only used for this test, i don't use it all the time. The site i use for speedtest is: https://www.speedtest.net

Hi Ashray, sounds like you have already reset device network and home router network.

Here is the explaination. The local wireless network speed is around 38mbps to 58mbps and laptop local network speed is 65mbps. That shows that your home router only give you Wireless G speed, not even reach Wireless N. You may need to upgrade your home router for better speed performance.

Speedtest.net - this is an easiest way to test your internet speed. However, most of the support will ask you plug your laptop in the modem directly and do speedtest instead. Right now, your result for internet speed is about 1MB or 3MB, it could be any other devices are in use of internet and slow down the speed. Maybe someone using Youtube while you do the test or you have smart home device that using internet. But with this rate of speed, your internet is really slow.
