Got the notice for a security update yesterday. Backed my phone and secure folders up then selected to do the update in smart switch on my laptop.

It looked like it downloaded the update and was going to start installing but then it got stuck at 75% percent for the last 25 minutes. Is this a known issue with this update?63e5091c-90f3-4634-b704-6d091140321f.PNG

Not sure why you decided to use Smart Switch instead of a regular OTA?
I know that one of my devices (S9+) fails to backup on the desktop version of Smart Switch - But no issues at all with the mobile version of Smart Switch.
There's no issues with the regular OTA over the device's WiFi - But there shouldn't be any issues with Smart Switch either...

Here's an update. It truly crashed. Won't even do a Emergency recovery function! Now i have to go to the repair centre.

What state is your phone in now - Does it boot normally?
If you know how to use Odin - You can download the Samsung Firmware - And Flash it with Odin - You'll still be able to Boot into Download Mode regardless - If you can Boot into Recovery - I'd Factory Reset & then Flash the Samsung CSAA Firmware with Odin 3.13.1 (min version) - If you're able to Backup your device with Smart Switch then I'd do that as well BEFORE you Factory Reset. Good luck 🤞

Thanks for the tips guys. Looks like I dodged an encounter with a machine gun. Repair depot wouldn't touch it today because it's a snow/freezing rain storm and while chipping ice off the car some got in my pant pocket. (seriously) it melted and when I got to the depot they said it looks like possible water damage. I showed them the script from the online encounter with samsung support to print r the issue was there before the car drive to them. He tried rebooting but it wouldnt turn off, he tried the reboot holding the volume down key. nothing would work. He said come back tomorrow once you blow dry it then we will plug it in and see what we can do. I instead went to Taco Bell/KFC... watched videos, read your notes and a big crunch combo. Then tried rebooting with lots of combinations: volume up, volume down, Bixby key, plugged in, not plugged in etc. Eventually I got it to where it was talking about installing a custom OS. I then plugged it back in and the emergency recovery aspect of smart switch decided to work. In the end it's working again! but to hell with doing the latest security patch if this is what happens! and I have my wonderful son back on my phone!

I'm going to look into ODIN now. But seriously I bought a pixel 3 a month ago for another line and it seems bullet proof compared to my late note 2, 4, and apparently the note 8 as well.e52e4308-b889-46cd-873e-42e257cb451c.jpg

For the benefit of others in case they end up in the same circumstances I clicked "emergency recovery" not "emergency recovery using the recovery code" and it worked. the first time samsung support I clicked "emergency recovery with recovery code" and that is when it seemed to almost truly become a brick actually a tile this thing is to thin, fragile and light to be a brick!

Actually - it's virtually impossible to really break a Samsung device - You can almost always (pretty much guaranteed) that you can Boot into Download Mode - Once you're in Download Mode all you need is the Stock Samsung Firmware & Odin.
I've accidentally Flashed a Note 3 Rom on a Note 4 - (Note 3 & Note 4 were beside each other & I picked up the wrong one) I've booted up to an empty device (no os installed) & no files found in TWRP - But Odin saves the day every single time.
Happy to hear that you're sorted out.
But seriously - It's virtually impossible to actually brick a Samsung - Short of putting it into a microwave - You can be pretty much guaranteed that you can recover from what would kill most other devices. 👍

Did it cause

Security Error: This device has been flashed with unauthorized software and is locked.

Or

Downloading... Do not turn off target!

I dont remember ever getting the "Security Error: This device has been flashed and is locked"

I switched to a Note 20 Ultra about a year getting that Pixel. Missed the stylus. And then a month ago u changed to the Fold 5 and got the case with a stylus. Overall a happy upgrade path. If you can wait a year get the next Fold as the camera will be better. Don't get Fold 3 or 4. The 5 has subtle but multiple improvements.
