I have not found a clear consensus on whether USB-C ports on the Note 8 support the 10Gb speed of 3.1. Because of the fast charging I assume the 100 watt rating of 3.1 is responsible, but mobile and Android resources online all don't feel comfortable making this determination.

Sooo... someone from Samsung should know this definitively. If you're not please cite your sources.
Thanx!

It's 10Gbps, so USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Stupid naming). Same as S8. But the fast charger is nowhere near 100W, it's 15W, same as the AFS charger of both S6 and S77da056c9-63e3-451d-8cd1-f89badc2bd56.jpg

Tx but I'm not aware of an intermediate standard for power between 3.0 and 3.1. It seems you are referring simply to the physical charger(mine is rated at 10w or 15w) as opposed to the ability for the connection to put out 100w that would explain why OTG for this USB-C doesn't need an external charger or also that the phone can be used to charge another device(as I've found reference to the S8 bring able to)??

Ah okay. No, charging other devices is by no means related to that. My SIII can charge my tablet, like my tablet (Tab A S) can fast charge my S7, despite Micro-USB connection. There is even an app for the S5, Tab S and Tab Pro from Samsung called Power Sharing. I do not think the phone can handle 100W output (anyways, not for long enough). I'll have to try that out. If you can, try to charge a laptop with USB-C charger. But we're talking about a ULV laptop . I only have a 130W powerhouse so I can't try by myself. But I reiterate that 100W on a phone is hard to believe. I think even USB-PD is throttled for phones.

You can use you phone and otg cBle to charge other usb device but 100w is a very big number. Only certain devices can be connected over otg cable. You can connect your external drive no problem but you cannot power 3.5 desktop drive using otg cable.

Nah, 100W is too much. Anyways, OTG devices requiring more than 15W are way past OTG-class devices. Full 100W is really for laptop extension docks over a single USB-C connection.4841b5ab-66e0-4d4a-a27a-19647e2d18c1.jpg

The 3.1 standard is designed for the 100w at 10A so I don't doubt that. How well the manufacturer may implement the standard is another thing. That's right I'm still hoping an official Samsung input would be welcome as well. I'm just content my OTG will operate without needing external power. I keep sufficient external power when I need it.... and powering a 3.5 desktop drive never entered my thoughts....

The standard for 10Gb data rate was my mission concern and 3.1 Gen 2 could be more complicated, just wait. 😊
