Everytime I bookmark something, it goes to a folder, instead of just bookmarks. Just recently started doing this. How can i fix this?  S20

Which browser are you using?

You may want to try to clear the cache in  your browser app.  Force close it.  Then re-open it and try to see if that changes anything.

For the Samsung internet browser, you could use a workaround to direct your bookmark to the bookmark location.  Mind you, it's not a solution but a workaround and tedious but you get it in the default bookmark.

Tap on the 3 lines icon in the bottom right corner of your Samsung Internet browser.  Select "Add page to" and select Bookmarks.

It will put that bookmark in the default Bookmarks instead of the folder.

I personally use Firefox and I specify where I save every bookmark because I have multiple folders to organize each bookmark.  Take a second or two, but I get it where I want it.

If it worked before and just recently it started saving in the folder, something obviously happened.

I would suggest saving all your bookmarks to somewhere else, like Gmail or something and uninstall and re-install the Samsung internet browser.  Perhaps the bookmark folder, the default folder got corrupted and the browser can't find it and simply saved it to your other folder.

To save your bookmarks, you have to "Share" it.  This seems quite a dumb way to save your bookmarks but whatever.

Tap on the bottom right corner icon, the one with the 3 lines.

Tap on Bookmarks.

Tap and hold on any one of the bookmarks and then select "All" at the top left corner to select all the bookmarks (except your folder).

Tap on "Share" and select the app you want to share it to, like Gmail (if you want to send an email with all the bookmark links) or convert it to Adobe pdf if you have Adobe reader or to a document file, etc.

The silly thing is that it will only provide the url link of the bookmark and not an actual html file which most bookmark exports normally offer.  But we are talking Samsung.  So backwards.

Once you have the url links saved somewhere, you can uninstall and re-install Samsung Internet browser.

Hopefully, that will solve the problem and then you have to add all these bookmarks again manually.

How painful.

Sorry but I can't think of another solution to this.  Perhaps someone, like an Expert in this forum can offer a much better and easier solution.

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination.

Try it.  It can't hurt.  Enable it and try your bookmark and see if it changes.  Disable it and try it again and see if it does anything different.  I doubt it but worth a try.

I would still recommend trying a different browser.  I have used Opera Beta, Firefox, Duck Duck Go but my main one is Firefox.  Like I said, I get to decide where each bookmark goes, in which folder and you can synchronize it with your desktop Firefox browser as well so that if you have bookmarks on your mobile, your desktop will have the same as well.  Plus, I really love the ability to add extensions, albeit the number of extensions is limited unlike the desktop but still very useful.

I had the same issue till just now. I have fixed it to default to bookmark only, and not to a folder that was created. When you bookmark there's a pop-up with folder name and EDIT in blue. Hurry and select edit. When the next screen pops up, it will have bookmarks at top with subfolder in blue. Select bookmarks next to it, and subfolder will disappear. Now bookmarkswill be blue. Save this at bottom right. Now all bookmarks will save to main default folder bookmarks. You can also do this if you like a page to be saved into a folder.
