I got my new Samsung ultra. I just read article about how to turn on call recording. That option doesn't exist on my phone despite it being legal in Canada. With telemarketers lying, businesses making mistakes in their offers, it just wanting a record of something, I want to be able to record it.

I wonder if this has ever been brought up in an investigative news story? You should forward your information to a reporter. Sometimes a little PR can get a lot done!

Covid has given Canada the push it needed to start doing a lot more things over the phone, that once were almost always done in person.

This has surely increased the demand for the ability to record voice calls.

I, like others, have had to download a 3rd party app from playstore.  The one that I use is simply called "Call Recorder" (I think it's by  "Fragile Heart" or something.) But unfortunately, it isn't as reliable as a built in recorder would be.

Having health issues, and often a foggy memory to go with it, I need to record darn near everything. (Usually only for my own records. For those patchy memory days.) So I had it set to record all of my incoming and outgoing calls.

But unfortunately, sometimes this app will randomly stop recording calls without you knowing. (Sometimes with big consequences.) I found this out the hard way. :(

I recently had a call come in with very undeserved belittling and degrading behavior being directed toward me by the caller on the other end. When I got over the shock, and after a lot of deep consideration, I decided that I probably should hold this person to account for the way I was treated, and maybe report them to their superiors. This was a supposed professional, and I was always nothing but polite and respectful to them. (I didn't take my decision lightly. I am definitely NOT a "Karen" type. LOL)

But I was further shocked to find that my call recording app had stopped working a few weeks prior. I no longer had any proof that I was treated so horribly during this call. There was no point in even considering to make a report when I could not proove this behavior had even occurred. (If I were to be called a liar, which was a definate possibility. )

I hope that they decide soon to enable this option to these very expensive line of phones. Especially if there is not any legal purpose for not doing so already!

Also,... I've always been a bit uneasy about using a 3rd party app for this purpose.... so hurry up Samsung! 😉

They probably make a few bucks from the downloads of third party apps. I guess they don't care about the aggravation to all their customers. I am new to Samsung and I think this is BS.

If they are to not add the feature. The least they could say is why ? Canada has very lenient laws about call recording. It is legal as long as one of the people on the call is contenting.

Call record should not be disabled in Canada I suspect its because then consumers might be able to catch greedy businesses from lying

Has anyone tried installing the Indian samsung phone app apk?
My guess is that India has that feature because it Indian smartphone market is pretty competitive and if Samsung doesn't give that feature people can buy some other brand phone, whereas in Canada your only options are google and Samsung and with Google phone app announcing that it records call people would rather not have that ability altogether. So Samsung has no incentive to listen to us because where else are you going to go to buy an android phone.
