Galaxy SOpen the Samsung Members app Click on "Get Help" run the Diagnostics for the Finger Print Scanner & see if you get any error messages?
Are you using a 3rd party screen protector?
If it's something other than Whitestone Dome tempered glass, then that could be the issue.

Galaxy SIn that case, try going to Settings > Apps > Biometrics & Security > Storage & Clear BOTH Cache & Data for Biometrics & Security > Reboot.
See if you can access Finger Prints then to test with Diagnostics.
If you still can't access the Finger Print unlock, then I'd suggest that you visit a Samsung Service center to get the device checked out by a tech, it could be a hardware issue.
