How do I get my chat messages from within Samsung Messages to transfer over to Google Messages?

I know that Samsung is urging all Samsung Messages users to switch to Google Messages, but there seems to be something that Google and Samsung seem to have put little to no thought into.

While text messages automatically transfer to Google Messages, the same cannot be said about chat messages from within Samsung Messages.

I was going back and forth between Google Messages and Samsung Messages on my Galaxy S20 and noticed that all my text messages between myself and my mom (who's also a Samsung user with the S20 FE) were seamlessly pulled into Google Messages. However, we also had the chat messages feature enabled, which enabled us to get access to RCS-like features from within Samsung Messages and the messages that we sent and received that are flagged as chat messages; those are the ones that are not getting carried over to Google Messages.

This isn't good at all. I want all my messages, regardless of whether they are SMS messages or chat messages, to carry over to Google Messages.

I looked all over the internet and could not find any solutions.

Help would be appreciated. I also hope I'm not the only one experiencing this issue because moving to Google Messages is one thing, but when it's not as seamless as what I've experienced, that's not good. It's felt like a broken experience so far.

I THINK that RCS Chat messages, might not be able to be moved, because they are end to end encrypted.

I don't know if there's a way around this.

If true, that's frustrating. I don't want to lose that part of my message history to be left behind in Samsung Messages.

Makes it all the more frustrating that Samsung and Google are more keen on ushering people to Google Messages without first developing a proper tool to seamlessly transfer all messages from within Samsung Messages (both SMS/MMS and RCS like chat messages) to Google Messages.

Actually, it seems that I was wrong about not being able to move RCS messages from Samsung Messages to Google Messages.

See the screen shot below.

I have never tried it, simply because I have always been using Google Messages, but I thought that maybe it wasn't possible because RCS messages are encrypted.

Hi Danyboy191,

We are sorry to hear this issue from you and your frustration is understandable.

Unfortunately, it is not possible for directly transferring RCS messages between Samsung Messages and Google Messages.

To ensure future compatibility, enable RCS in Google Messages and start a new chat with your mom. The RCS features will work seamlessly in Google Messages.

Thank you.
