Hello! I am new to having a samsung and I just just got a samsung S22 ultra .

I have no idea if I'm missing something or if  it is just unavailable at the moment.

I want to change individual app notification sounds. Example; I want my text messages to have a different sound than a new email. I have looked at how you would change them for the S21 and it does not seem to be the same . Used the three little dots to change individual app settings and the option to change the sound down not appear. Settings for the phone and nothing.

Please help! Thank you!

For all frustrated Samsung s22 ultra has to option to change sound. If you go to settings, apps and there is no sound option then go to notification, then other notifications or categories, after that you have to actually click on the category and then the sound will come up. Each app has it but sometimes under notification and sometimes under sound.

For example my problem was that I didn't think of clicking on to the 'writing' I that already has a on and off option. But that's what you actually have to do!

Thank you so much for that. I can't stand the same sound for every app

Hi there, did you manage to find out settings now? I just managed to changed the notifications for my incoming SMS this morning.

For those still hadn't get the resolution, try the below steps:

Go to Google Messages App in your S22Ultra

(not the Samsung Messages app- why? They have separate discussion topic on this if you want to find out the reason)

Google Messages > 3dots (top right corner) > Settings > Notifications > Notification Categories > Incoming Messages > Sound.

Hope this helps :)

Notification categories no longer exists as an option.  Therefore sound can't be customized per app on s22 as of now.

I just got the new 22 ultra myself and I was having the same issue. I have had several samsung phones but this one is slightly different.

Go to your settings and select apps, select the app you are wanting to personalise, hit notifications, the notification category, other notifications, and select your sound from there.

Hope this helps everyone!!

go to settings.  scroll down to apps. then find emails or texts, whatever you choose to change the sound on. click on all notifications. then click on other notifications. you will see alert and silent. click on alert to have the blue dot enabling alert. you will see sound, vibrate and app icon badges etc. if you also want vibrate option click on it for the blue dot showing it is enabled. click on sound  and a pop up comes up with all available sounds. click on the sound you want. when you click on each sound it will play and you can select the one you like.  Hope this helps

Go to "Apps" and find the app you want.  Click "Notifications" then down to "Notification Categories". Click the WORDS of the notification you want, the blue on/off bar. Next page, you'll now change it to "Alert" if it's on Silent. Then you're "Sound" options will pop up below and you can choose which notification sound you want :)

GG2 instructions worked perfect for me and I have a new S22 Ultra. If you follow the steps it works.

How to Set a Custom Alert Sound in Settings

You can change and set up custom notification sounds via the default phone settings. Here's how to do this:

  1. On your device, navigate to Settings > Apps > Your apps. The menu names may be slightly different on some devices—for this guide, we'll be using a Samsung device.
  2. Find the app you wish to set a custom tone for and select it.
  3. On the app info page, tap Notifications and toggle on the slider button for Show notifications.
  4. You will be able to view a number of notification categories under the Other section on the Notifications page specific to each app, such as General or device-level notifications. Choose the appropriate category and select Alert.
  5. On the Notification category page, scroll down to the Sound section. It shows the default tone enabled for the app. Tap Sound and select your desired notification tone from the list to change the presets.
