I have researched everywhere and still this phone randomly makes a sound.  Why?  Very frustrating as I cannot turn on sound at all without this random dinging going on.  Notification reminder is turned off as well as NFC payment.

Thanks for the information.

I suggest you to please check if the issue occurs with the device in safe mode by following the instructions below.

1-Turn the device off by holding the Power button until the option to Power Off appears on the screen. Tap Power off .
2-Press and Hold the Power and the Volume Down buttons at the same time, to turn the device on.
3-When you see the Samsung logo appear on the screen, you can let go of the Power button while the device boots up. Make sure to keep holding the Volume Down button.
4-You will now be able to see Safe Mode down the near the bottom left of the screen.

After testing, simply restart the device to exit safe mode.

So the issue did not occur in safe mode. I have rebooted and so far so good. No dinging. What could have changed?

Hi bethd, If the issue didn't occur with the device in safe mode, then there is a third-party app causing the issue.

I suggest you to try the resolution provided by @mytech and check if you can find the application prompting the notification. You could also try deleting your third-party apps one by one (starting with the most recent) until you find the one causing this issue.

Really weird, but no random sound since I rebooted from safe mode. If problem reoccurs I will try mytech's solution.

In the Samsung Galaxy store there is a "goodlock" app and there is another nested app inside of that called "notistar" this will tell you what notifications are making you pull your hair out 🤣🤙✌️
Then you can shut it off so you don't go bald 🙃😭👍
