Hey RedDog, are you around? You've been a terrific help to me in the past, and I was hoping you could do so again for me.. I have another problem that I'm afraid to tackle without some expert advice!
Hope you are well, and hope to hear from you..

Hi Elaine,

How can I help? 😊

Hi! Oh, and Happy (belated) New Year! So.. my phone was giving me conflicted messages about my SD card, like it wasn't recognized! then that I didn't even have one! I then decided I'd best backup my phone and sent everything to the "Cloud". THEN I saw a lot of stuff just disappeared!!.. all addresses, birthday info, etc. But I don't understand how this Cloud works, and am afraid to try and bring (everything?) back!
I guess I just don't know what to do from here! 🥴

Happy belated New Year to you as well

SD cards can occasionally fail, or get corrupted, so while I use Smart Switch to backup my device to the external sd card, I also backup monthly to my computer & daily to my Google drive account.

Depending on where your data for things like, birthdays, addresses etc were stored on your device, can dictate what will be backed by to the cloud.

If your Contact information was saved to the device, or SIM, it should likely still be there, but unlikely to get backed up to the Cloud.

Samsung has been deprecating it's Cloud services on Samsung Cloud, and has been recommending that people switch to Microsoft's One Drive for Cloud storage.

You could also check in Settings > Google > Backup and see if you have your data automatically being backed up to Google Drive?

I would probably get a brand new external sd card myself, you could try to copy it's contents to your computer, and then Format the sd card, copy everything (if anything was there to copy to your computer), back to the sd card and see if it is still working in your phone?

But, I'd start with looking to see what Cloud storage services you currently have, and go from there.

Google is pretty good at keeping your data (some might say, "unfortunately") but you may be able to recover some of what you are missing from Google?

I'm sorry, forgot to mention I'd backed up to One Drive as well as the Cloud. From now on.. no more Cloud! I've used smart switch when I've updated from one phone to another, but it never occurred to me I could use it from phone to computer.. duh! But, having lost information doing the backup, I'm just a tad uneasy about trying to recover it.. and maybe making things even worse!
Guess I'm just a nervous old broad! But.. I'm on it.
Thanks so much, once again, for your help!
Have a great day. 😘 (one and all!)

The 🐘 was me being silly in one of my replies, to "everyone wants a piece of.." me, "piece by piece" So that's how they say,  you eat something that is too much, like an elephant, piece by piece, or one bite at a time 😊
